• SynchTerm Observation

From Spectre@21:3/101 to Anyone on Thu Apr 28 08:36:00 2022
Hmm I can't see any particular reason for this. But I have observed the cut
and paste issue in StinkTerm with Mystic. I use it generally quite happily
for a number of systems TLP of course, and most others I've poked around in, and it'll do the highlight to copy and right click to paste business.. or at
a pinch the scroll back buffer... but for a couple of Mystic systems it
doesn't seem to want to.. steadfastly refuses copy and paste..

If I were you, I'd send this to Sync Discussion and write to DM directly.

Shrug, its merely a local observation at this point. But I'm also not near
Sync Discussion, or Drunken Medusa whoever that might be...

Try pressing ALT-B to go into scrollback mode then highlight what you
want and then press escape to get out of scrollback, then paste
    wherever.

Yeah, no its not... it only happens on a Mystic BBS, on other systems it performs as expected. It simply refuses to paste into the terminal at all... under normal circs I can copy and paste as expected on any other BBS..

So...., sounds like an issue with Mystic, not SyncTerm.

You could easily connect to Vertrauen (home of Synchronet) or any other BBS that carries Dove-Net for Sync Discussion. Also I'm not sure where you got "Drunken Medusa" from.. DM stands for Digital Man (author of Synchronet).

It's bad advice anyhow, since Digital Man is not the developer of SyncTERM. You'd be better off reaching out to Deuce via the bug report instructions at https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/.

Well yes, yes I could.. but I'm more interested in seeing if anyone else has noticed this same foible. It might all be my fevered imagination and someone can disabuse me of it.

Drunken Medusa is what you get when you assume someone knows a DM other than Danger Mouse. :)

That's been my experience as well. I switched back to SyncTerm 1.0 for awhile and then settled on NetRunner instead which works as expected.

If you're using Windows the "prealpha" versions work quite well:

Huh, so its not just me. I didn't pay much attention to it originally.. but noticed it only seems to happen to Mystic. I've been using a v1.1 without to much issue. To be honest its probably not a big enough problem to be a deal breaker for me, it otherwise works well.

Yeah, I'm afraid it is. It may just be coincidence that it's only happening for you on Mystic systems, or perhaps Mystic does something which provokes the bug more often. but it can and DOES surface on any BBS software. As was stated, it's a known bug and has been for quite a long while.

The Alt-B scrollback trick mentioned usually wakes the client up when this bug is occurring. You don't need to stay in scrollback to mark and copy. Simply bring up the scrollback buffer, press ESC to return, and you'll see the cursor change format. That indicates it will now work normally.

Shift-Insert will always paste into the terminal even when right clicking does not work.

Not with you there... the regular form is, it never works, get a different version. This is 95%+ of the time it works as expected. I don't call many Mystic systems so it took a while to figure out what it was doing, but it's 100% only with mystic systems it fails.

I can conceivably see a variation in the OS you're runnning it on, although that leaves me perplexed as to why Mystic. Does its author not like Mystic?
At this point I dunno, there's one other mention of the same behaviour.. so
I'm thinking there's something to it.

At this point I'm just about done with it. For my purposes it works enough, I'm also not interested enough to go and chase down danger mouse or the two
of spades and raise an issue, it was only for interests sake.
