• Getting older

From poindexter FORTRAN@21:4/122 to All on Sat Mar 9 07:22:00 2024
I've enjoyed being part of Google user group testing. I live near their Mountain View, CA headquarters, and it's a beautiful campus. Nice
    snacks, too.

I've participated in a couple of groups, one dealing with Maps, another
was a little obscure, but had to do with Google Assistant before it came
    out.

I received an invitation to a Google user group, and filled out the questionnaire. They wanted to know if I could participate in-person,
yes. Asked me my age range, then said "We have all the information we
need, don't call us, we'll call you..."

Usually they'd have a bunch of questions regarding your use of Google
    products.

I guess I'm no longer their target audience.

Had similar happen quite a few times. Never really have gotten used to it... just knowing that I've aged out of various demographics that I'm otherwise still a member of. Feels so weird...

Similar what? There's no quoting or context to give a clue what you're talking about here...

Makes me slightly mad to read this, feels ageist but I am understanding also they may have certain demos they are testing against... but still :(

If I was on the selection panel I'd take you expertise and insights any day! :)

I have had that happen to me also. I have never participated, but I
twice recently got the "ping" for the questionnaire on my YT channel.
Both times it dumps me out after answering the age range question.

IMHO, it knows that persons of my generation are not as likely to believe
that we can use social media as a "full time job" to pay our bills.

I'D SAY "AMEN" WHAT YOUR LAST LINE SAYS.

As I have said many many times I know most of what I know about using a computer from read BBS messages.

Last week when I was at a new place of business (to me) and saw the person helping me was typing on a keyboard I mentioned holding one of the CTRL Keys down and moving the Mouse Wheel would Enlarge or Shrink the text on the monitors screen (on lots of programs but not every program).

What I learned on BBS's make ME look like a mister know it all, to some and it's ONLY because I paid enuf attention in Elementary School to learn how to Read & Write.

I Do thank the Teachers who put up with me.

They could have enough people of that age bracket already - if it were a job interview or something with only one position, then yeah.

My wife does a lot of surveys online (at least she used to) and often there would be a question that if she didn't fit the criteria (age or anything really - income, did you buy a car in the last year etc) it would be over.

I would keep putting my name in if i wanted to test google products, you never know, but I wouldn't take it personally, they just don't want to waste their time, or your time for that matter.

Many job offerings are phantom offerings - they don't actually intend to hire somebody. Reasons vary.

The job market is such a circus at this point that you are better off trying to establish yourself as a self-employed worker these days. I can't stand modern practices.
