Id rather go veggie than 3d printed meat.

What's this about? I think the only 3D printed food I've heard of was a machine I heard that could "print" a pizza several years ago.

In one of the new William Gibson books, a woman goes home to her father and has dinner with him. She thinks to herself that the 3D meat printer's fat cartridge is running low.

I have not read this but when you mentioned cartridges running low I immediately thought this seem to be a universal norm regardless of what is being printed. Bet the printer was cheap but the cartridges refills are a killer :)

I'm not sure how my body would feel about it, but... things like that just appeal to me.

Like how I like to drink wine and gin, by which I mean that I like to take a tiny sip, compare it to how other things have tasted, still think it's fairly disgusting because the taste of alcohol is... not great, and then find a way of disposing of it that doesn't make me feel bad.

Which tends to make wine tasting fun -- I enjoyed being the designated driver for things, because I was able to drink as much as I wanted to, and everyone else was able to drink as much as they wanted to.

And certainly no pressure for me to drink any more than I was.

But it's interesting to try new things, even if they're terrible.

I had a laser printer for a _long_ time, and I think I replaced the toner on it _once_, and I'm not sure it was because of the toner being low.

Hopefully the fat-printing machine winds up more similar to laser printers, but... it's probably difficult to have a diet where I eat something once every few months.

I also manged to get one from work that was being dumped as they thought it had water damage. It fired up just fine and the toner laster for over 12 months... it was great :)

There's a 36" plotter at my old office that I'm having to pay to dispose of. :(

Pen based? That's a little sad to see... I'm guessing all those jobs
    are mostly inkjet based now.

I bought a used Laser (HP4000 series) at a school equipment auction, the
toner lasted a few years and the printer itself close to a decade, had a
nic card in it... died about 8 years ago, and bought an HP color new
that's run like a champ since.

When I managed IT teams, we brought in a new team of techs to support 3000 users in a 7-building campus. I split them up into pairs and gave them a scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with the environment.

One of the quests was to find the oldest printer in the campus. One team
went building to building and found an old HP 4050 with 400,000 pages on the system board - it had several fuser replacements over the years.

Another team befriended the print team and asked them to look up printer
page counts in HP Jet Admin and got the same answer.
