I'll probably invoke the sysop's curse of "separation anxiety" by
announcing
it here, if that's the case I'll have to get things back online on
Sunday when I'm back.

I'll be leaving tomorrow for a camping trip up in Algonquin Provincial Park until Sunday. Got everything packed up already so we can get an early start, just need to throw the kayaks on the car & hit the road.

So it turns out my ISP is down across much of the country.
Turns out my board's separation anxiety decided to take out
all Rogers customers in Canada! You're welcome! :)

I'm the same though, everytime I leave the home I wonder if that will be
the time we have a power outage or something, but then the bigger problem would be the freezer defrosting, not the BBS / website going down..

Yes.. a BIG surprise to many who only carry debit cards too!
Visa and Mastercard payments worked ok though.
..so they had redundancy? Hard to believe, especially since the
whole shebang collapsed like it did.
My guess is that they will blame it on an unauthorized software
update or something.
They're probably waiting for the biscuits.

Many people were desparately trying to pull cash out of their
bank accounts to get through the weekend.

I'm one of them, I seldom carry cash anymore, though I did
happen to have some for my camping trip to buy some
firewood. I had to fill my gas tank up in the park, I
drove 37km to the nearest gas station (Shell in Dwight) and
thankfully they were still able to take credit cards, but
debit was down.

They blamed it on an Ericsson firmware update when this happened last year in April of 2021:

My Telegard setup is on a VPS so I can still access it, but you won't
see this message until my ISP comes back online so this point can

There's a lot to be said for keeping some cash on hand -
I'd take out an extra 20 every once in a while and keep it
on hand, just in case.
I grew up before ATMs and debit cards, I feel naked going
out without some cash on me.

familar with working with the Chipmunks. Actually this moring, I've
been working with some rabbits, and cattle that they allow to graze on Forest land.
I have 2 snoring dogs in my office. :)
