• Crashmail II question

From Dumas Walker@21:1/175 to All on Sat Sep 8 13:24:52 2018
Does anyone know how to mark an echo in crashmail as pass-thru? There is some mention in the documentation of allowing for areas requested by downlinks to be pass-thru, but there does not appear to be any example of an area that is actually set up as such.

    Thanks.

Magicka uses Crashmail so Apam may have some thoughts. If I find anything out I'll let you know also. :)

Yeah, I don't know, I've never done that with it. I know HPT does
    pass-through though.

As crashmail started life on the amiga, and the config is the same structure I have this when setting a
area passthrough via crashprefs (Using FSX_BBS as an example):

    AREA FSX_BBS 21:1/195 P/T "/home/bbs/msg/FSX_BBS"
    EXPORT %21:1/100
    DESCRIPTION "FSX BBS Chat"

Well, I wound up not needing crashmail II proper (decided to go a different route for Moe's), but I am also using magimail, a crashmail derivative, with Magicka. Unfortunately, the P/T option did not work with it (it abends with a config file error), but it will accept KEEPDAYS. I will keep an eye on that for a few days and see if it at least keeps those message areas trimmed back.

    Thanks!

It was worth a try. I've not used the native linux version of crashmail,
except for the version that apam has changed for Magicka.

    I've got:

    KEEPDAYS 30
    KEEPNUM 200

Set on this machine, and it looks like the bases are set to 200 total
    messages sofar.

Thanks for that tip! I had been wondering how to set a max number of
messages for some of the more active echoes. Question answered. :)

Make sure you don't do a maint on the bases, only a pack. Otherwise
Magicka will get the read ponters wrong..
