    Hello Players,

I'm sorry but it seems like I started somehow a bit earlier with the Galaxy Dynasty. And somehow the score didn't reset or something. And now I'm 2 days prior to others. My proposal for my score it to take hold from GD until Sunday.

    Regards

    Shinobi

I had the same thing here. For some reason, it didn't reset on this end. I
just ran 'reset.sh' from within the Galactic Dynasty directory to reset the game locally.

I hope this doesn't cause any issues on Paul's end of things...

    Hi Apam.

I am unsure if a league reset is working for me.
    If it's a switch it's not working.
If it's just the word reset then it runs to a point but bails on a linux command that is not windows friendly as it's a batch file I'm running.
How do I send a league wide reset?
Should the fsxNet version of the game be updated or is it the latest version/build that you created?

    Best, Paul

    Hi there

I have sent you a netmail with a few questions to see if we can check your config is correctly running.

Reconfigured according to Your instructions and used the version You sent me.

I've just put a new build on jenkins that fixes the reset.bat. I think
everyone will need to update particularly if they are using windows (but
should on linux too as I can't remember if I updated anything else)

    For Linux: https://exoticabbs.com/build/job/GalacticDynasty-Source-FSX/

    For Windows: https://exoticabbs.com/build/job/GalacticDynasty-Win32-FSX/

    Hopefully then it should work.

If it doesn't, it might have to wait a bit as I have a fairly busy week

I have to update the 1/10 HUB with the latest Apam version yet.
Was going to work on this tonight but ran out of time.
So will aim to do so tomorrow. I did hatch out the latest versions about 24 hours ago so if you are a node in the inter-bbs league please feel free to update to this version and start to test it. I will do the same tomorrow and advise when done at this end and also when another reset has been sent. Sorry about the reset but it's probably the best way to ensure we all start from
    the right place - agree?
Also look for an updated BBS.CFG as I will be adding in another node tomorrow.

    Thanks guys

Good luck. I think a reset with the new version would be a good idea, if
anyone still has trouble and in sending / receiving have them delete the gameid.dat and it should recreate it with the next packet from you with
the right game id. (reset is supposed to do it, but just deleting the
file will preserve their players games).

Got a doctors appointment tomorrow then fly out friday (hate flying lol)

    Hey

I've doing some thinking about the issues we've been having, and am
considering moving the game_id to the BBS.CFG. Either that or changing it
to a text file and having a human readable/editable number that can be
manually set to the current game id.

if we do it via BBS.CFG you'd be responsible for setting a new game id
and hatching out the updated BBS.CFG each time you want to reset the
game. (or leaving the game id the same if you're just adding nodes).

The other way would continue to work the way it is now, but would be able
to be changed by the sysop if something is going wrong.

At this point I think the BBS.CFG way would probably be less problematic,
but require a little more intervention, so wanted to float the ideas
first to see what you (and others) think.

I'm fine with that, given we're sending out a BBS.CFG each time anyway it
seems a logical way to go.. at least it ensures that aspect is set in unison\ Perhaps a switch for GD that the HUB can announce/set the Game ID like it can add/remove nodes may be another option or have both options available?

I'm not really sure if I got it correctly. But once this is done is there
need to manually edit the BBS.CFG every time for every system? While what I would prefer is something that would work like now. I mean I check the
Message boards. And once Avon tells me it's sufficient just copy one file to
GD directory and that's it. So I mean. Make it idiot-proof. Copying is fine. Editing the file each time anyone joins would be over my skills. :-)

Great work on GD! Wonderful job. Thanks for this game. I'm really enjoying it.

BTW: I came up with an idea. That's marketplace. Once I'd mine some ore I'd sell it. If I'd prepare for war. I'd buy troops and then sell it. Do You know Elite from ZX Spetrum? That was my favorite game. However I'm not sure what would it do to the game mechanics. But as I recall Elite was FPS and this is strategy. So who knows.

Thank You for the great job and hope to hear from You soo

The game id is meant to be the same for all nodes, so Paul would just put
the correct game id in the file before sending it to all nodes.

What the game id is supposed to do is ensure packets from systems that
haven't reset when a game is reset from being processed. For example,
Paul issues a reset but a game creates score packets before the reset
signal is received, then those score packets wont be imported into the
    new game.

At present, the game id is set when it receives a reset packet or if it
doesn't have an id and receives a packet from node 1, but we seem to be
    having issues with that happening.

It possibly resulted in buffer overflow or what and I got to negative balance.

    Is that possible?

I'm sorry to bother You again. But I made an experiment. And I found that the trouble possibly causes the line 2700 in main.c in current state of art at
Your repository of Galactic Dynasty. I mean there is atoi function converting the buffer to integer. In my opinion that could handle only max. 9
characters. So in the fact now. When player enters 10 characters as allowed
by the game it causes the buffer overflow in that function.

I achieved a bit better result using:
    i=strtoull(buffer,NULL,0);

But I'm not strong in C++ so I doubt this would fix the trouble. However
since I don't know what function correctly converts the string to int64 in
c++ there is definitely somethings that would work 100%. My experiment
results doesn't provide correct balance addition. But it doesn't go to negative.

Just for the sake of fun I'm attaching the screen that results from using the stroull function from stdlib.

Have a nice weekend & best regards

    Hi All

I've made some changes to the next version of Galactic Dynasty. Packets
that are the wrong game id will be renamed with a .GAL.OLD extension,
packets that are a wrong version or otherwise bad will be renamed with a .GAL.BAD, only packets for a different league will be left untouched.

Hopefully this will help cleaning out your inbox in the case of version mismatches.

Very useful change. I have already forgotten the steps to take when this message appears after quitting the game.

Just by the way I really like the 0.6.1-fsxnet version. Good work.

Can you get me set up for the GD league game? I finally got GD compiled and running. Not sure what the problem was before, I was missing a prerequisite
I assume. Whatever it was, it got installed when I installed the list of prerequisites from the magicka web site.

    Hello apam!

    A couple things I've noticed with 1.7.0-fsx:

    1. After defeating Queen Mapa, I still occasionally get asked to pay tribute to her at the beginning of my turn.
    2. Immediately after I defeated Queen Mapa and logged out of the game, GalacticDynasty maintenance started segfaulting. (I call GalacticDynasty maintenance in my BBS door script to make sure that score updates get sent out after players play the game.) After a couple of times deleting the inuse.flg and running GalacticDynasty maintenance, it cleared up.
    3. Pirate attacks seem to do excessive damage. I've noticed pirate attacks close to wiping out all of my military, plus destroying thousands of planets.

    Regards,

    Andrew

From what I can see, it is generating "Recon" packets, but I dont see them being created (unless they are going out before I catch them)...

But I do see an "error" file in my GD dir - the same timestamp as the log, however, it is a zero sized file...

    So I'm thinking its broke.

    Hello everyone!

Question anyone running Galactic Dynasty on SBBS?

Sure would like to know the config for it. Only reason being I play it a lot.

It (Galactic Dynasty 1.0-dev) was pretty easy to install:

    Name Galactic Dynasty
    Internal Code GALACTIC
    Start-up Directory ../xtrn/GalacticDynasty
    Command Line GalacticDynasty%. -D %f
    Clean-up Command Line
    Execution Cost None
    Access Requirements
    Execution Requirements
    Multiple Concurrent Users Yes
    Intercept I/O No
    Native Executable Yes
    Use Shell to Execute No
    Modify User Data No
    Execute on Event No
    Pause After Execution No
BBS Drop File Type Mystic DOOR32.SYS
Place Drop File In Node Directory

This configuration works for both Win32 and Linux Synchronet installs.

However (Apam, are you here?) if you run both OSes (as I do, with Vertrauen) for
some reason the user's created on the Win32 instances aren't seen/reused on the
Linux instances, even though both users appear in the created "users.db3" file.

    Hi all.

I have been working on adding Jan and UnderZaNet to the inter-league game.

There is a new BBS.CFG file being sent to you that should land in your inbox, please drop this in to your GD directory

Jan. You need to create a file box for the 21:1/10 echonode so packets placed in there by GD will be sent to the 1/10 HUB for processing.

You also need to set your galactic.ini file as follows

    [snip]

    [Main]
    Turns Per Day = 20
    Turns In Protection = 60
    Log Path = c:\path\to\your\galactic\logs

    [Interbbs]
    Enabled = true
System Name = UnderZaNet BBS (21:2/108)
    League Number = 21
    Node Number = 5
    File Inbox = c:\pathto\mystic\echomail\in
    Default Outbox = c:\pathto\oubound\filebox\

    [snip]

Andrew can correct me if I'm wrong.

You will also need to run maintenance on a regular basis.. check the docs for more info and/or sing out for help here and the guys will guide you :)

    e.g. GalacticDynasty.exe maintenance

For now there will be GD game packets being created at 1/10 HUB for your
system but I will set them to HOLD so they will only come across to your BBS when you poll. I can CRASH them when you give the word.

    Best, Paul

While I'm pretty keen to, and it seems to be working, maybe a few more

So far I'm liking the changes as it seems to make the game more

I'm glad you posted this. I didn't have that line in my galactic.ini file.
When I would upgrade the game, I would copy mine into the directory, so I wouldn't have to edit it again... :)

Somehow I missed that one... :) It is a great idea. The log files can get a
    bit 'out of hand'...

Yeah, Paul's good at coming up with ideas :) The log path is actually
optional, if it's commented out or not there it will just dump log files
in the current directory like it used to.

*blush* well thankyou. speaking of ansis did you get the one I sent you?
not sure if it worked as it might have been while your bbs was doing
    strange things.

He really is good at it. :) As soon as I saw the message Paul posted, I added it to my galactic.ini file. There really are a lot of log files created...

Yes, I did get it. Thank you! I've never had someone make an ANSI screen for
    me before... :)

Yeah, I make a new one each day, I did that on Magicka because they get
rather long with the built in webserver logging everything that's
accessed, and having them split up by day seemed to help find things. I
just copied the log code to galactic dynasty, which doesn't log as much,
I could switch it to use a single log file.

Yes, I did get it. Thank you! I've never had someone make an ANSI screen for me before... :)

Oh cool. I have to think up some more ansis to draw, I'm just doing it to practice, I did one for you, gary and paul. I get a bit nervous making
them for others, because I wonder if they might think that I think they
need new ansis (which I don't) They probably don't but I tend to over
    think things a lot lol.

    Avon,

I am under the impression that Galactic Dynasty is now a part of fsxNet (or at least support) and the game has gone InterBBSing. Is this correct? Pardon me, I have not been following along as I should be. It is very interesting that apam got his game to work InterBBSingly <g>. I too, at some would like my door game Legion RPG to support IBBS. Any leads would be great.

    Hi Jon

I wrote up an article on fsx wiki a little while ago that sort of goes over what I did in galactic dynasty. There's no code in the article but you can always grab the galactic dynasty source off github if you want to see how it works closely.

    the article is here:
