    Hello All,

    today something very impressive happened to me. I met four people at the peak on Hawk's BBS. I felt like in 98. And I wonder. Will that ever happen ever again in my life?

    Best regards

    Shinobi

    Sure, there is MRC for Mystic (written by Gryphon, Cyberia BBS) that you could install on your own BBS. I believe Gryphon is also working on a new IRC type of chat door but I don't know the details.

    I have never been an IRC person myself but I connected to irc.synchro.net for the first time yesterday and chatted with Deuce and Digital Man about problems I have been seeing with binkit. Also chatted with a number of folks from around the networks that I haven't seen in some time.

    This was from my BBS. I didn't realize it had this function built in so I'll have to check it out more often!

    I'll have to check out if I can connect to other servers (like Gryphons) and add other servers to the BBS. It's way cool.

    Well I guess it depends on what you're talking about. If you're talking about just joining us to chat with us, No. You don't need to be running Mystic software at all. Any IRC Client will work. I've even heard of sysops connecting with the synchronet irc client by editting the server list.

    If you're talking about meshing servers with us, that's a whole new question. All of us are running ircd-hybrid software. And then of course there's passwords involved, as well as other things..

    If you get a chance, come say hi.... or create your own channel and invite
    your friends.

    I would just add the server and channel to the BBS. I can't run a server here, at least not on the default port because my ISP blocks it.

    If you get a chance, come say hi.... or create your own channel and invite your friends.

    How do I do that? In Synchronet I can add something like irc.synchro.net (default) and a channel #synchronet (default again). Is there something like that I can use to connect to your server?

    You need to mod the chat menu (chat_sec.js). First you need to add the hotkey to this line:

    var keys = "ACDIJMPQRST?\r";

    The "M" in this line is the hotkey I added.

    And add the code to connect to the IRC server somewhere in the case block. Here's mine.

    case 'M':
    bbs.exec("?irc -a irc.twinklebbs.net 6667 #mystic");
    break;

    Finally, if you want the menu option visible to your users, you will need to edit the .ASC file.

    Hmm, that seemed to be a can of worms. I don't have pip on my system. I tried installing it (package python-pip), and apt wanted to install parts of Python 2.6 (not 2.7 which I'm running). Dunno if pip is smart enough to handle both versions, or if it's setup for Python 2.6 in Wheezy.

    # apt install python-pip #python 2
    # apt install python3-pip #python 3

    Just as a heads up on the differences in versions when it comes to pip/linux. It should be OK even if it updates some ends of 2.6 if install Tony.

    Check which version is actually running?
    python -V which I am sure you already knew. :)

    Cheers!

    These are what I use, again pending on version but should be updating
    2.7.

    # apt install python-pip #python 2
    # apt install python3-pip #python 3

    I'm not using Python 3, but anyway. :)
