today something very impressive happened to me. I met four people at the peak on Hawk's BBS. I felt like in 98. And I wonder. Will that ever happen ever again in my life?
Sure, there is MRC for Mystic (written by Gryphon, Cyberia BBS) that you could install on your own BBS. I believe Gryphon is also working on a
new IRC type of chat door but I don't know the details.

I'll give it a try. My server has screen with IRC connected to this network running. So it's possibly time to revisit again.

MRC basicaly turns Mystic's chat feature Inter-BBS in an IRC like way. I don't know who is running an MRC server today..
Pequito, is that you?

Yea, Gryphon's newest IRC client is damned close to actual IRC. It's quite impressive for running within Mystic.
Pequito, Ktulu and Gryphon are all running servers that are meshed so either one will get you to the party :)

That sounds good. Is that new server something you have to be running Mystic to connect too? If it will work with Synchronet I'll connect..
:)

Well I guess it depends on what you're talking about. If you're talking about just joining us to chat with us, No. You don't need to be running Mystic software at all. Any IRC Client will work. I've even heard of sysops connecting with the synchronet irc client by editting the server list.
If you get a chance, come say hi.... or create your own channel and invite your friends.

How do I do that? In Synchronet I can add something like
irc.synchro.net (default) and a channel #synchronet (default again). Is there something like that I can use to connect to your server?

You need to mod the chat menu (chat_sec.js). First you need to add the hotkey to this line:

I have used the Synchronet IRC client. I modded it, and have an extra menu option to call the modded client (the mod just uses a different server).

I'm gonna have to hang around this net more.. get my doors and chat section setup in one day.. Thanks!

good deal!

So what would shinobi need to connect his BBS to the server? Does it
use Mystic's chat the way MRC did?
I just got instructions from vk3jed for Synchronet. I'm going to add
that after work tommorrow so I'm hoping to join you all soon.. :)

While you're in your Synchronet client try typing /server irc.twinklebbs.net or /server irc.asylumbbs.net.
Then once connected type /join #mystic...
Hey Al how are you? you should be able to port forward your ports I do and Have 2 servers running on DSL
Thanks Ktulu, I'm going to do that when I get home tonight. I should be there soon.. :)

The Synchronet IRC client works well. I use it, while I'm trying to get the Mystic IRC client working. Still getting python errors, have python2.7 and libpython2.7 installed. :(
Gryphon wrote to Vk3jed <=-
What python errors are you getting? Are you speaking of the irc.mpy client?

yes, irc.mpy is the one I'm using.
Here's the error message.
PYTHON ERROR (irc.mpy)
File "irc.mpy", line 93, in <module>
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload/datetime.so: undefined

What version of irc.mpy are you using? It is currently at v0.12 now
and you can check it by using the /version command. But for what its
worth, it sounds like its not finding the datetime function. Do you
have it installed? Please also remember that this is a mystic app, and
can only be ran as a mystic door with the GY menu command. I have to specify this because I have had people think it was a stand-alone
python script. It's not.

And where does that function come from? I can't answer your question, because I don't know.
Gryphon wrote to Vk3jed <=-
I would try 'pip install datetime' and see if that helps.

Hmm, that seemed to be a can of worms. I don't have pip on my system.
I tried installing it (package python-pip), and apt wanted to install parts of Python 2.6 (not 2.7 which I'm running). Dunno if pip is smart enough to handle both versions, or if it's setup for Python 2.6 in
Wheezy.
Pequito wrote to Vk3jed <=-
These are what I use, again pending on version but should be updating
2.7.
# apt install python-pip #python 2
# apt install python3-pip #python 3
Just as a heads up on the differences in versions when it comes to pip/linux. It should be OK even if it updates some ends of 2.6 if
install Tony.
Check which version is actually running?
python -V which I am sure you already knew. :)
