    Hello folks,

Any recommendations for a light Linux distribution that's easy to deploy and can run Magicka, ENiGMA and Synchronet at the same time? I am willing to have
a sandbox of sorts in a VM. :)

I use Slackware that is very light. It builds Synchronet without needing any further dependencies. I just built Magicka yesteday and needed to install lua and libmicrohttpd and it seems to be working well although it needs more setup to be sure. I'm not sure about ENiGMA but I don't think there would be a problem.

I just use Ubuntu 16.04 server. It's pretty light, as it doesn't include
all the gui stuff, and also pretty standard, in that you can generally
    find packages for it.

For desktop I'd suggest Ubuntu for Server CentOS.

    How light is "light?"
Crunchbang++ and BunsenLabs are pretty tiny.

Yes, I have been trying Ubuntu Desktop, I'll take a look into the Server
    as well.

As light as it can run in a VM with little memory requirements..

Debian is sort of a lighter version of Ubuntu Server. It's really quite efficient.

Ubuntu Server or Debian would both be perfect for what you need! I've personally run all three on Ubuntu 16.04...

I use Ubuntu 16.04 (.10?) server myself and I find it run much faster than using a GUI. As long as you know bash commands similar to command prompts in MS-DOS you get pretty much get things done. The most of which I find most difficult is file modes, file permissions and filename case-sensitivity. (files, files and files seems to be key here). Once you get these three
things figured out, you can pretty much do the more heavier work that needs
to be done, such as compiling source and things of that nature. Ubuntu is great at having packages available to install using apt-get or dpkg. It just takes time like most things to learn to learn a new terminal. There is much documention and self-help information all over google.

apam, I have managed to install Magicka, it looks nice so far. I actually
was able to figure out how to install the web interface after I had a day or two of down time due to my router insistingly causing disconnections. If you would like to see the bare, you can access vintagebbsing.com on port 2023 or http on port 8282.

Anyway, to the point, the Ubuntu 32/64 server is great for a light-weight system using minimal resources and runs pretty good on a decent box.

    Sincerely,
    Jon Justvig
