• For Honour

From apam@21:1/125 to ALL on Tue Sep 12 15:35:52 2017
    Hi guys

back in 2015 I wrote a door similar to LORD called for honour. In my
infinite wisdom I wrote it in Java, which makes it extremley hard to
setup and only works properly on linux. Anyway, I've started porting it
    to C today :)

I've got the java version setup on exotica (this bbs) if anyone is
interested in having a look, and if you have any suggestions or spot any
bugs let me know and i can fix them up while I port :)

Just an update on this, I have replaced it with a WIP C version. It still
needs work, need to add colours, maybe some more ansis etc, but the basic gameplay is all done - though will probably need tweeking.

I've also added it to build.magickabbs.com I don't know if the windows
version works but the linux seems to.

That didn't take you long at all...

Yup, the Linux version works just fine... :) I've got it running in my Sysop Test menu at the moment.

One thing you might want to look at, is how much gold the user gets from fighting the bunnies. :) I wasn't able to keep myself healed with the amount
    of gold I had received...

You might also want to think about adding a clear screen in between the different screens. I think it would make it look and feel better for the user.

See, I'm already creating lists for your "ToDo List". ;)

Yep, I think so to. This isn't actually the first time I ported the game
from the java version. Some time ago I ported it to PHP as a web game,
the wife and I played it a bit and I remember that coming up.
Unfortunatly I lost that version, so it's a matter of remember what to
    fix.

I'm pretty sure there's some other calculations that needed improving,
but I can't for the life of me remeber what.

You might also want to think about adding a clear screen in between the different screens. I think it would make it look and feel better for the user

Yeah, I'd like to actually replace many of the screens with full screen
ansis. But yeah the presentation needs a lot of work still.

See, I'm already creating lists for your "ToDo List". ;)

Haha, thanks :) I'm pretty stoked you set it up actually lol.

    Hello Apam,

I've noticed in the For Honour door that when I go to kill other players
it says I don't have any fights left although I have not attacked anyone
else yet and there are no other players here.. maybe that is why.

I also wonder if there is a config file so I can change the number of
forest or player fights (in a local game)? I'm going to be joining the
league game here shortly but would probably keep the local game going as
    well.

Also I don't see a score file created by For Honour. It would be nice to
have the scores for the game in the list of text files.. :)

Fights per day are forest fights and player fights, so if you used up your fights in the forest, you can't attack other players.

I also wonder if there is a config file so I can change the number of
forest or player fights (in a local game)? I'm going to be joining the league game here shortly but would probably keep the local game going as well.

There is not a config file for that at this stage.

Only interbbs score files are created at present.

Thanks for that, I've merged the spelling / grammar one for now, I want

The setting of fights per day I think needs to be checked with interbbs

I've merged the rest now, but made a couple of changes, I changed the
ansi file for inuse, and also changed the text when you've already
challenged your master for the day.. "You have too much knowledge"
didn't sound right especially as you would see that if you are defeated
    on your previous attempt.

I just merged this ini setting for now as is, I still think in regards
to interbbs games it will need to be checked (and set by the coordinator
if wrong) but for now we can rely on the honour system :P

    Hey

Just a note to let you know git is no longer compatible with the version running on fsxnet. It's not stable either. So don't use it.

If you want to run For Honour, best to get it from Agency or another
    FSXnet BBS.

The reason for this is I've started a big overhaul, and it will likely
take a while. I am testing the most current build on wunderlust, but I've twiddled with experience, damage, added health bars and potions.. gems
    drop less now.

The goal is to make it not get so easy on higher levels, yet remain
playable on lower levels. If you want to help test, come on over :) but
    expect frequent resets.

    Hey

I've been working hard on my game For Honour, and finally finished all
the ANSI graphics and adding colour to the game.

I've also adjusted gold gain. Things could use some more adjustment, particularly the starting stats. Possibly also the hit values, etc.

If you're interested in giving it a go, it's available for windows on my jenkins (build.magickabbs.com) or in source form at github.com/apamment/forhonour-c

It's the same build script as galactic dynasty, so should be easy to
build and should run on a variety of platforms including raspberry pi.

Or you could play it on exotica.

If you do decide to have a go, I'm very interested in your ideas on how
    to improve etc.

Anyway, check out my "Bulletins" the next time you log on. It allows Add/Delete/Edit of bulletins on the screen as Sysop, Full up to 70 character Titles, ability to point to "Any" file anywhere... not just

How many programming projects do you have going at one time? I have some projects going all the time, but seems like you have the ability to "Produce" more and more much faster..

At present only really 3 I am working on, Galactic Dynasty, For Honour
and Magicka. I tend to bounce between projects a lot, I often start
things that I never finish as well.

For Honour was just a port of a game I wrote in 2015, it was a bit of
effort to port, but as I'd already figured out the logic it was really
    just translating.

I tend to have spurts where I can concentrate on stuff, and then times my
brain just doesn't want to work. I try and make the most of the spurts.

Today was mostly drawing ansis and adding colour to the game, so no real programming, and I'm not sure the quality of my code is really up to
scratch either, but I have fun, and as long as it works it's ok.

Anyway, I just finished my Second MPL ever. It's an "Alternative" replacement for Mystic "Bulletin"... (Seems like all of my MPL's are a replacement or alternative to g00r00's work in mystic

I saw this tonight when I logged in to get my daily dose of break the
web, and thought it looked new.

I guess that's what MPL is for really, replacing are making alternatives
or in general customizing your system to suit you.

Going to have to have a closer look at your text files collection soon,
have to go have dinner now :)

Big difference in game play with this version. I actually had some money to deposit into the bank... :

I think part of it (besides giving not enough gold) is the starting
stats. Sometimes the random stats can be pretty crappy, for example if
you're a warrior and get really low strength and really high
constitution, it takes ages to kill stuff and you lose a lot of health.
