• TIC file format

    From Black Panther@21:1/186 to All on Thu Jul 13 15:48:24 2017
    Hi All,

    With the help of Ian over at 2nd Choice BBS, I have discovered an issue with the way Allfix creates their TIC files. As far as I know, Allfix is no longer being developed, so I don't know if there is any way to address this...

    Allfix 6.0.24 is creating TIC files with the following:

    snip<=-

    Desc FIDONEWS 03 Jul 2017 Vol 34 No 27
    Desc The newsletter of the Fidonet Community.
    Desc CONTENTS:
    Desc *
    Desc * List of IPv6 nodes
    Desc * The Johan Billing JamNNTPd project
    Desc * Statistics from the Fidoweb
    Desc * Nodelist Stats
    Desc * How to Submit an Article
    Desc * Credits, Legal Infomation, Availability

    snip<=-

    According to FTS-5006.001 (TIC file format), the key words 'Desc' and 'Ldesc' are to be used as follows:

    snip<=-

    Desc

    A one line description of the file to be distributed.

    Example: Desc Region 28 nodelist segment for day 208

    This is an optional keyword

    Ldesc

    This Keyword may occur more than once. If there is more than one
    they should be grouped together. Together they form a long
    description of the file to be distributed.

    Example: Ldesc This is a utility that everyone must have.
    Ldesc It beats all and everything you ever had.

    This is an optional keyword.

    snip<=-

    This is causing slight issues with the way that MTAFILE is creating the
    reports of new files. I really don't want to create a band-aid for this, as
    it is not the proper way to handle the issue.

    Sorry. I just needed to vent a bit about this... ;)

    Ok I am pleased to help you with that part but for my point if view is, probable not
    for others but for me if you can fix this it would be great if not then not a
    problems as I don't have any ideas to how to help you with this as Allfix is no longer being developed
    MTAFILE probable have to stay as is, I do run Tinytic on my other bbs (Sbbs) and it
    does the thing, if I see the tic file before runnnng Tinytic, I edit save and then run Tinytic
    it works special with ansi tics but if you do fix this then I sure the creater of Tinytic would
    like to now also.

    Thank you for looking into this problem as to the way Allfix does to tic
    iles

    You have helped me out tremendously. Being able to see the TIC files that you were getting showed me where the problem was.

    No problem. As Allfix is no longer in development, I am thinking of making an addition to the MTAFILE to "fix" the problem. It's not the right way to
    handle it, but it's the only way in this situation.

    Give me a few days to get it coded and tested here. I'll send you a copy when it's finished.

    Thanks again

    Ok, I've got it coded here. I ran multiple tests, and it runs smoothly here.
    I do want to let it run for a couple days to ensure everything keeps
    working as intended... :)

    This will only 'fix' the description not displaying properly. There isn't
    much I can do about the missing 'AreaDesc' field from the TIC files. At least we won't have descriptions that are only the last line... :)

    Okay, I am pleased I could help you find the problem to fix it

    What do you have to edit the TIC files for?

    for my tinytic and sbbs fie tossing if I get a file with ansi description
    and I run it it crashes tinytic so I have to edit the tic file and remove
    Ansi description and type in one, then it processes it fine this is why

    Ok... That is one thing that I wanted MTAFILE to be able to handle. Although some of the descriptions are wider than they should be, so it looks kinda messy...

    Okay will do and thank you for testing and fixing it.

    No problem. :)

    Hi Sneaky.

    The version of MTAFILE that Avon hatched out, is the current release. This is the one that will display the descriptions properly, instead of just the last line.

    Let me know how it works for you.

    Thanks again for the help.
