    Hello everybody!

Having a nightmare recently with Sky broadband.

We've had a few evenings recently with it disconnecting every few mins.

Anyone else having issues with them?

    Louis

No but have you shutdown the sky router and any others co-linked then restarted
having also rebooted your system ?

Routers do get a case of need to reboot some times.

Yep, done all the reboots. Looking at the router logs it fails to get a lease from them.
We've had no problems at all for over a year, then all of a sudden, its been really flaky.

Checked on their status page and it was a known outage in our area.

Will have to call them in the morning and see if anything can be done. Perhaps a new router or firmware or something. Fingers crossed!

Heh, I would argue this depends on the router...

My broadband router, technically acting as a modem at the moment, only gets power cycled if there is no option (e.g. forced power down and no UPS ;-) )

The main router I have is an OPNsense firewall box that only gets rebooted about once a month, and that's only due to updates as opposed to anything going awry.

That said, my experience of ISP-provided boxes has always been lukewarm, so perhaps not surprised to hear this as a general thought...

Nice. Mine is basically in modem mode too. Everything gets handled by PFSense here.

I mean, it can't hurt right? More often than not it's an act of desperation though!

I said "need to reboot some times"

I did not specify how often - mine normally they can go well over a year unless
I need to make changes to the router acting as a modem (Cable VM) which has been once when I suffered no ssh inbounds since switching to the new service.

The VM device is a Hub 3 and I have gone through similar devices from BT, Plusnet, Talktalk and the later three where not used except in an emergency as I use Asus routers - I prefer to spend the money and NOT have any issues with port forwarding etc where the rest of the firewall is fully operational.

Turned out to be the sshd service not running and likewise the telnetd service but that one I will be killing off and just leave the sshd service.

Just waiting to see what traffic is being used by both services using the BBS but as I do not advertise it is generally minimal.
