    hi.
    i am still here!
i have set up binkp for same port as telnet. not sure if it is working tho? test needed!
BBS is still only available on an evening at the moment, and should be collecting mail etc from you each hour during that time. this appears to be working as i have your posts and the weekly fido node list's and all fsxnet echo's etc.

Your system is in the nodelist as being available 24/7 using port 26634.

I should point out that you are the ONLY one using that port address so is there a real reason to do so as the rest of us use different ports for each to maintain security.

If you allow bbs users to enter your system having pre-registered then you should offer ssh as it is a lot more secure where telnet is not at all secure mostly because of weak facilities within the telnet server software that is around for use.

But every one to there own etc.

Advise how long your system will be on limited service and what the hours are (based on gmt/utc) so I can update your nodelist entry.

Otherwise if I get a complaint that your system is not available I will have to
mark it as down - so lets try and avoid that.

Your system is in the nodelist as being available 24/7 using port 26634.

If you remember when I was given the node number I did say that the BBS would be available every evening 7 days a week, 18:00 to 09:00, see the emails to confirm this.
Also you have the wrong port address stated in the message, it should be 26643 and not end with 34.

    It is ppbbs-26643.portmap.host:26643

26643 is NOT the port on my pc that I use as i am on CGNAT and dont have a public IP address, I port forward that to an open port on my pc.
In one of your emails you say you only need to poll my BBS if any on hold exceeds 20 days, this has never happened.
I have only set up BINKp because I read in the echo that you was asking for it for crash mail. again this will use port forward to my pc.
Sorry for any confusion in this as I thought all was set up and working as per your last email said all was working.

VC> I should point out that you are the ONLY one using that port address
so VC> is there a real reason to do so as the rest of us use different ports

I have not had any security issues, possibly because I am behind CGNAT so no public access via IP, only access is what I have set up.

BBS times have not changed, 18:00 to 09:00 7 days. If this changes I will inform you.

Let me know if this is all ok.

    the correct port is:- 26643
in the node list it says 26634
    just a typo i am sure... :)

This says operating S=18:00 J=09:00 with hopefully now the correct port #.

It was omitted, sorry my cock up.

Yes, fine now that you have reminder me, Thanks.

With the timing information in the nodelist at least from next Friday my system
will not have issues sending you files/echos etc assuming you want them and have requested them from my system.

Every month I send out notify messages for files and echos (one or more each) that gives lists of available files and echos and lists of what you are connected for not that all downlinks get echo Z2REGION25 which covers the state
of the my system and any scheduled maintenance where the system will not be available 24/7 and any other information that might be useful.

Please set you system up to receive and pass it on to yourself.
Traffic is normally very light 2 - 4 messages per month.

yes the fidonet node list is merged with the fsxnet node list on my BBS.

a bit more info for you:
I have tonight been setting up a separate port forward for BINKP so its not on the same port as telnet, it is a different address but still points to my bbs tho. it is:-

    sparkling-sea-57763.pktriot.net:22677

I dont know if it is all configured correctly as i dont have a way of testing it my self.
If you want to use that for crash mail etc then please let me know, and I will make it permanent, If you dont want to crash to me using that address and it is ok to keep it on Hold at your side then i will leave things as they are, where my system collects each evening.

Thank you for providing Fidonet, it is appreciated. I bet keeping things running smooth takes up a lot of your time.

    No it is still applewoodbbs.linkpc.net

    or without the 'bbs' bit.

I sent a message out in this echo to advise every one that the IP address given
on OLD nodelist entries was discontinued having moved ISP services.

That said you should be using a current copy of the NODELIST or Z2DAILY
file and obtain it from here on Fridays.

Your system was marked down when I could not poll you and could not connect to your system address.

It is a requirement that all nodes in the nodelist are available 24/7 for inbound calls - maintenance tasks allowed etc.

Yours is hit and miss at best.

When you fix this let me know and I will reset your status
