why are you reading a distributed database echo? there's nothing in there for humans... the only reason a human might be interested is to see if their data is correct but on most systems, that area isn't even available to the sysop... in fact, it comes set that way by default in the software...

FWIW: i agree that it doesn't need to be sent every 30 minutes unless it has changed in some way... it could be the result of a bug in recent changes made to the system or the software... even mine is set to run 48 times a day but mine doesn't post an update unless there's been a change, AFAIK...

    Because I can. ;)

I found it usefull to see, which systems are connected, and their details. But I don't care about the avatar messages.

Maybe it shouldn't be gated to fidonet, and stay inside the synchronet network?

That seems as good default setting: Only send updates, and maybe monthly (or weekly) periodic ones just in case the update is missed...

The default behaviour is to repost data every seven days, and to post new data / updates as they come in. It's likely this sysop has misconfigured the event responsible for these messages; there are a couple of ways to force it to export all data every time or with greater frequency.

I sent the sysop an email to look into it.

i used to do it, too... i even replied in there to a message that had erroneous fidonet addresses listed... no one ever saw my post and it wasn't until recently, when i joined DOVE-Net, that i discovered how the area is set up by default on a new synchronet installation... it fully explained why that sysop never responded to my post...

I found it usefull to see, which systems are connected, and their

you don't mind the match maker data then? ;) ;) ;)

if it isn't gated to fidonet, how are fidonet sbbs systems to get their updates for those options? one does not have to join DOVE-Net for the feature capabilities...

hopefully the sysop of the system in question will have found a fix by now... that or maybe DM has found a bug that caused it and fixed that? that still leaves that system in question to be updated...

with all that said, it isn't a big deal... or is it?

You could turn it around, and make DOVE-NET a requirement if you want the data in SYNCDATA. ;)

being a member of DOVE-Net is not a requirement for running synchronet... of course one doesn't /have/ to run the SBBSLIST door in which case they don't need the data but why prevent it in the first place if all that's needed to populate and update the BBS list is the messages with the data?
