Hi all,
I recently fixed my POP3/SMTP issue for sending/receiving e-mail via my domain name with the Synchronet Mail system (Win32). I had my Direct Mailing as my domain name which was wrong. Note: I had to additionally open port 25 with my service provider.
I was able to set the direct mailing to blank "<auto>" which SBBS found my DNS Server with sending e-mail from my BBS and/or using an external e-mail program.
Receiving e-mail was fairly easy as the defaults pretty much cleaned it up.
I found myself making it more difficult than it really was and hope this helps someone along the way.
