• Where to find text

From Tim Whitson@1:103/705 to All on Sat Jul 9 20:45:01 2022
When Synchronet exits a door game I see a message flash across the bottom of the screen: Closing the Synchronet Door and Returning to The Fool's Quarter...

Where can I find this text, I'd like to alter it. I spent a good part of the day searching for it and finally decided to ask for help.

    Thank you,

    Tim

That's not any text that Synchronet sends. Is it just one specific door game that displays this? If so, then that text would be in the source code and executable binary of that specific door game. I've never heard of "the Synchronet Door" or seen this text, so it's definitely news to me.

    Rob,

You are correct, it was one of the JNS Software games, it's in the config file for the game.

Thank you, it was driving me nuts trying to find it.

    Tim,

When Synchronet exits a door game I see a message flash across the
bottom of the screen: Closing the Synchronet Door and Returning to The Fool's Quarter...

A lot of the doorgames are hard coded with this variable, such as the
doors that were done by Rusty Johnson of JNS software. The late Doug Rhea,
of bbsfiles.com, had bought the source code and rights to them, and one
could get a personal key for $5, cheaper than the $20 fee it was originally. Sadly, Doug lost his battle with colon cancer recently, and his website is gone. While I have the main files over here, I don't have the key generators for the doors.

With Al Lawerence's Sunrise Doors (he's still around, and his doors are
now donationware), they say something like "Thank you for using [doorname]. Please wait while [BBS Name] reloads", when you exit the door.

The values are set up when you input your BBS name, and the name of your
BBS software. That's why it says what it does when the door exits...that's
part of the door, and not part of the BBS software. Yet, the dropfile is
how the door determines who is entering it, and if the data doesn't match, things could get wonky in a hurry.

The BBS basically shells out to a separate window on that node for the
door to run, then reloads the BBS, when the user exits the door.
