• FTN messages to downlinks lost?

From acn@1:103/705 to All on Thu Jan 13 11:41:26 2022
    Hi,

Since my update to 3.19b yesterday, I think I'm missing some messages on my point system.

I noticed it, as the number of messages flowing in went down noticably.
And when logging into my BBS, I saw that someone answered me in the Fido echo IPV6 (on Jan 12), but that message did not appear on my point.

I tried a "%RESCAN IPV6" via AreaFix and looked at the sbbsecho.log file - and the message should have been included in the Packet to my point:

2022-01-13 11:19:19 Exporting fido_enipv6 message #421 from Michiel van der Vlist to Anna Christina Nass in area: IPV6
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Appending outbound packet from 2:240/5824 to 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca8.pkt
2022-01-13 11:19:19 Adding IPV6 message from Michiel van der Vlist (2:240/5824) to packet for 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca8.pkt
2022-01-13 11:19:19 Added IPV6 message from Michiel van der Vlist (2:240/5824) to packets for 1 links (exceptions: none)

Then, I saw that 422 messages should be sent to me:

    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Exported: 422 msgs fido_enipv6 -> IPV6
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Exported: 422 msgs total
2022-01-13 11:19:19 AreaFix (for 2:240/5824.1) Connected area 'IPV6' has been rescanned.

But now comes the part that I don't know if everything is okay:

    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Finalizing outbound packet from 2:240/5824 to 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca8.pkt
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Sending packet (/sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca8.pkt, 49.6KB) from 2:240/5824 to 2:240/5824.1
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Moving packet for 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca8.pkt to /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Packing packet (/sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt) into bundle (/sbbs/fido/topoint/0000p001.TH0) for 2:240/5824.1 using ZIP
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Deleting /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt (from line 2611) 2022-01-13 11:19:19 Sending packet (/sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca7.pkt, 250.5KB) from 2:240/5824 to 2:240/5824.1
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Moving packet for 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca7.pkt to /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Packing packet (/sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt) into bundle (/sbbs/fido/topoint/0000p001.TH0) for 2:240/5824.1 using ZIP
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Deleting /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt (from line 2611) 2022-01-13 11:19:19 Sending packet (/sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca6.pkt, 250.1KB) from 2:240/5824 to 2:240/5824.1
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Moving packet for 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca6.pkt to /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca6.pkt
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Packing packet (/sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca6.pkt) into bundle (/sbbs/fido/topoint/0000p001.TH0) for 2:240/5824.1 using ZIP
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Deleting /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca6.pkt (from line 2611)

If I see this correctly, I should get 3 .pkt files, but in the final ZIPped file, only one can be found (see below).

Furthermore, maybe one file gets overwritten in this process (one line from above):
    2022-01-13 11:19:19 Moving packet for 2:240/5824.1: /sbbs/temp/sbbsecho/61dffca7.pkt to /sbbs/fido/topoint/61dffca8.pkt

    # unzip -l /sbbs/fido/topoint/0000p001.TH0

    Archive: 0000p001.TH0
    Length Date Time Name
    --------- ---------- ----- ----
    256098 2022-01-13 11:19 61dffca6.pkt
    --------- -------
    256098 1 file

Does anyone have an idea about this?

Luckily, it seems that all messages are flowing in and are stored in the messagebase and I only have the problem on the point side...

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Anna

Although you are right that compression isn't that neccessary today, if the feature is available, it should work like in 3.18b, don't you think?
But as a workaround, I'll try that.

Btw, I've just deactivated using ZIP archives for my point entries in echocfg and now I can rescan IPV6 and get the lost messages.

    Thank you for this workaround!

But I guess I still found a bug...

I think you've discovered a bug in the libarchive integration in SBBSecho: it will always overwrite an existing bundle (archive, e.g. zip file) rather than adding a packet to it. A work around would be to have the point set their compression type to "None" (or you could make the change locally in your sbbsecho.ini file). I'll work a fix as well.

I've updated to the current Git master branch and it seems to work again.

    Thank you very much!
