• File descriptions in webv4

From acn@1:103/705 to All on Wed Jan 12 17:24:20 2022
    Hi,

    I've just updated vom 3.18b to 3.19b.

Now with longer filenames working, I've had a look at some file descriptions in my BBS :)

When looking at the files eg. in the fileecho FSX_TEXT via webv4, I noticed that some file descriptions look fine while others are a little 'borked'...

You can have a look here: https://box.my.imzadi.de/?page=002-files.xjs&dir=fsxnet_fsx_text

Eg. in the description for NULL001W32.ZIP the linebreaks don't seem to fit and with TAGLINES.ZIP, the color information is lost.

In the BBS (via Telnet), for both files the descriptions look fine in extended view.

Do I need to configure something to correct this or do I need to re-read the FILE_ID.* files somehow?

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Anna

Eg. in the description for NULL001W32.ZIP the linebreaks don't seem to fit

    I see the same issue:
    http://web.synchro.net/?page=002-files.xjs&dir=fsx_text
Most likely just some issue with ecwebv4.

and with TAGLINES.ZIP, the color information is lost.t

The DIZ for TAGLINES.ZIP is using "pipe codes" for the colors/attributes. This is not a universally supported attribute-encoding scheme and ecWeb doesn't decode them.

In the BBS (via Telnet), for both files the descriptions look fine in extended view.

The "pipe codes" are being interpretted/expanded to ANSI in the terminal server because you have SCFG->Message Options->Extra Attribute Codes->Renegade set to "Yes".

Do I need to configure something to correct this or do I need to re-read the FILE_ID.* files somehow?

No, I don't think that would help. The first issue is likely something fixable, the second issue is really with that TAGLINES.ZIP file in that it's assuming that every BBS that receives that file is using a Renegade-derived BBS program. That's just unfortunate.
