OK, I can set my default settings in the BBS to 25 lines or set Syncronet

to

80x28 and Conquest works but doing this also mucks up SlyEdit.

OK I fixed the SlyEdit issue by setting the User Default # of lines to Auto detect. SyncTerm detects 80x25 as 24 lines and conquest will not load. Changing
it to 25 in User Defaults mucks up SlyEdit. As IMO SyncTerm is the go to terminal program for BBS, I don't think it is workable to expect end users to know to set their terminal to 80x28. The game should run in what ever the default setup is for SyncTerm which is 80x25, User Defaults on auto detect 24 lines. Unless I am seriously missing something here.

If I understand you correctly, are you saying different terminal sizes other than 80x25 messes up SlyEdit? I specifically made SlyEdit so that it should be
able to handle multiple terminal sizes, and I've tested it with some different sizes (at least using SyncTerm). SlyEdit should be able to handle sizes higher
than 80x25 and still look okay.

Marisa is right. I add the following two lines to my script before calling conquest:

unset DISPLAY
stty cols 80 rows 25

That fixed the problems I was having!

And an 80x25 terminal *with* a status bar actually presents itself as an 80x24 terminal to the server (BBS). This is the most common BBS client terminal dimension and should be supported by any BBS door worth its salt.

Did you try turning on the "pause after execution" option and restarting sbbs? it may be spitting out a error you arent getting a chance to see...

I thibk it is a syncterm issue, where it says 80x25 but the bbs gets it reported as 80x24 so apps that check get confuised. Perhaps the status line at the bottom is eatinbg up one line of the 25?

Well if SlyEdit has a problem handling terminal sizes greater than 80x24 or 80x25 then I'd becurious to know. It seems Synchronet is able to reliably get terminal size information from SyncTerm, but I'm not sure if Synchronet is able
to get accurate terminal size information from other telnet clients.. I'm not sure if it's a standard part of the telnet/rlogin/SSH protocols for the client application to send its terminal size information to the server.

A long time ago, I seem to remember seeing instances where some doors worked well in SyncTerm with non-standard terminal sizes but not so well with other terminal programs. It was a long time ago when I tried, so I don't remember offhand what the issues were that I saw.

I think it was Digital Man who said if the client is set to 80x25 and it's displaying a status bar, then it will report as 80x24. But that should all happen behind the scenes, so I'm not sure what would be confusing for the user.

If you have a status line visible in an 80x25 terminal, then it's correctly-detected by the BBS as 80x24 (visible area).
