• SBBS and Self-Hosted email

From Deepthaw@1:103/705 to All on Sat Nov 7 21:31:52 2020
My experiments with MBSE have come to an end, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to run with SBBS under Linux.

I know it has an extremely robust number of servers already out there - including SMTP/POP3/IMAP for email.

Is it possible to have SBBS interface with my own self-hosted email server as much as possible? I've got postfix & dovecot running along pretty smoothly along with a pretty nice webmail interface I'd like to offer to validated users
but that'd require them having accounts on the server itself.

I know this is a pretty loaded question -- there's a *lot* that would be involved but I wanted to start getting some ideas as to what I can do.

it may take some work, but you can have SBBS run on non-standard ports,
and forward your inbound postfix to SBBS on a given domain, etc. Though
    most will use dedicated Synchronet.

It's easy enough to relay Synchronet's outbound SMTP through another
server as well. I don't think Sync supports domainkeys or other message signing support, so delivery is usually the biggest issue in practice, relaying through a well-known service could help as well.
