• QWK Offline reading

From pcmedtek@1:103/705 to All on Wed Oct 7 23:05:09 2020
Hopefully this is a quick question. Tonight when I jumped onto my BBS to download my QWK packet to catch up on all the messages I could not open the packet using MultiMail. Verified via several computers this was true. 132491 is the size. So I reset the pointers to last night's time frame and downloaded again. This time it opens but many of the messages are messed up.

    I see ERROR READING MESSAGES.DAT
Others are just garbled characters but can get the jist of the message.

First time I ran into this and just reading via the BBS everything seems just fine.

You could send one of the bad packets to me for a look.

The size in bytes doesn't mean anything, it's just a ZIP file (usually), so it could be any size.

Looking at this further, it appears the QWK NDX (index) files created by sbbs for subs that include votes are incorrect. Disabling voting support in the QWK packet (as I suggested aboev) would fix this, but so would setting

    IgnoreNDX: Yes

    in your .mmailrc file.

I'll be fixing the bug in sbbs a well, but you have a number of solutions available to now, including excluding the index files from the QWK packet too (they're not really needed).

I also think I fixed the problem with the NDX files. So if you could update sbbs and retest with the same setup, that'd be appreciated.

    Thanks again.
