From Melkor@1:103/705 to All on Thu Oct 1 16:22:44 2020
I would appreciate it if some of my fellow synchronet sysops could check my webpage.
I posted an ad for my message network in fidonet and someone responded that they visted the webpage. 1. they couldnt find the infopack (probably because its a frontend type page and you click access bbs to get to the bbs webpage). 2 they said it looked like a dog shit all over the screen. 3. said there were drug ads everywhere. and 4. said there were broken links. I have went to it myself using windows 10's new IE and the screen looks fine only place there might be drug ads is in the bbslinks section which has 2 that might be drug ads and an ad for MarisaG's services. All the links work for me. The only time I see a screen problem is when I click access bbs and the ftelnet screen is scrambled for some reason. Any way if someone can check with other browsers and let me know if they see any problems it would be appreciated. Http://starfron.synchronetbbs.org

I saw this exchange on Fidonet and went to have a look at your website.

MarisaG appears to provide some sort of CMS to her users. It might be Joomla, I'm not sure. This is where your problem is. Something has compromised parts of the site and inserted a bunch of spam / drug advertisement / broken HTML stuff. It appears in the footer of the page and (IIRC) on the "BBS Links" page.

You'll have to work with MarisaG to get that resolved.

Either there's something wrong with the ftelnet splash screen file that you're using or your copy of webv4 needs an update.

    1. they couldnt find the infopack (probably because its a frontend type
    page and you click access

I think you're right. I found it via your Files page after clicking Access BBS.

When I click "Access BBS" the screen that comes up looks extremely garbled.

Finding the Files/Infopacks was confusing for me as well since your landing page has a "Downloads" section and the the Access BBS has a different link for files.

I tried Access BBS and was redirected to http://starfron.synchronetbbs.org:2000/ and got !JavaScript /sbbs/exec/xjs_handler.js line 19: Error: can't open /sbbs/webv4/root/index.xjs.ssjs: No such file or directory

/webv4/root/index.xjs.ssjs. I looked and the file is not there and is not

When you say you copied the files to sbbs/webv4/, is that where you were already serving your website from before?

Your sbbs/webv4/ directory should have these subdirectories in it - and nothing else - if it's up to date:

    components/
    lib/
    mods/
    pages/
    root/
    sidebar/

Is that what it looks like?

Double-check the RootDirectory value in ctrl/sbbs.ini -> [Web]. It should point to your webv4/root/ directory.

Double-check the web_directory value in ctrl/modopts.ini -> [web]. It should point to your webv4/ directory.

AFAIK index.xjs.ssjs is created upon the first connection to your index.xjs and
is over written upon each subsequent connections.

I have all those except mods/ that one is also not in my /repo/webv4
    directory and git pull isnt
    finding anything for webv4.

That's fine - it's not meant to be there by default; only if you want to put a modified page there.

Double-check the RootDirectory value in ctrl/sbbs.ini -> [Web]. It should
    point to your webv4/root/ directory.

    It does.

    Double-check the web_directory value in ctrl/modopts.ini -> [web]. It
should point to your webv4/ directory.

    It does.

Then I suspect a permissions problem.

.xjs.ssjs files are either generated on the fly when a client requests a .xjs page, or loaded from disk if already present (and new enough).

If webv4/root/index.xjs.ssjs does not exist, then the XJS compiler failed to generate it or failed to write it to disk, most likely the latter. Maybe sbbs doesn't have permission to write to that directory. You should probably check the permissions of your entire sbbs directory tree.
