I'm sure there's a spot in the wiki for this if someone can point me in the right direction. I'm suddenly dealing with someone taking up all my nodes and just sitting there. I'm sure it's some stupid script, but I'm just wondering if there's a best practices on dealing with this.

I'd like to avoid switching to a non-standard port, but I'm open to it.

I'd start by editing your ../ctrl/sbbs.ini and looking for the "MaxConcurrentConnections" line, and set it to something less than
your max number of nodes. I have mine set to 2.

Also look at the "LoginAttempt<something>" lines, there are six of
them.

Change the max number of concurrent port connections to 1...that's what
I have that set. Now, if it's from the same IP, as from a legitimate BBS
user in the same residence, they can get in.

But, I have the CAPTCHA set up, and the deal to block the bots with
"Root", "Admin", "Sysop", "Aquario", etc. in them.

In short, none of these get past the logon prompt. But, I'm running Synchronet.

Well, no. If it's set to 1, only one connection from that IP can
connect at once. That's the whole point of it.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I updated my concurrent connections to two since my wife and I like to connect at the same time at times.

I'll also look over the wiki info.

At very least, hopfully setting that to two will at least have one node available!

OK, I can easily fix that...but when these bots try to get in, and
sometimes more than one do at once, they clog the nodes up.

Sysops don't mind helping each other out in that regard...it's "been
there, done that". Plus, I learned something about the connects, but
right now, I don't have more than one user from the same IP in the
system. And, sometimes, more than one bot connects simultaneously.

You can put an IP address into the /sbbs/ctrl/ipfilter_exempt.cfg file and you shouldn't be affected by sbbs filtering.
