• Stuck outbound for scinet/Fido

From Gregz@1:103/705 to all on Sat Apr 4 13:55:47 2020
My scinet is the only one that has daily's and the .flo showing stuck in there after binkit runs both as a timed event and when I run it manually. It is the only outbound that I cannot get those files to be deleted after being sent.

It is the only outbound that I cannot get those files to be deleted after being sent.

We'll need more details, like the actual file/directory names, some log output, etc.

you need to look in your mailer logs and see if it has been able to transmit that file...

also, what's the file size of that file? if it is zero, it may be that you had set the mailer to truncate those types of files instead of deleting it...

so here's the thing with FTN mailers and whether they delete or truncate sent mail bundles...

    1. if the mailer deletes the file (eg: 0abcdef.mo1) then the tosser
will create the next one with the same name and extension. so
your tosser and mailer will always be working with the same mail
bundle file name for the same system. if the file has not been
transmitted before the next tosser run, the tosser will add more
    pkts to the bundle.

    2. if the mailer truncates the file (eg: 0abcdef.mo1) then the
tosser will increment the extension by one up to the max it
    is allowed to per day.

    eg: 0abcdef.mo1 0abcdef.mo2 0abcdef.mo3 0abcdef.mo4 0abcdef.mo5

then at midnight, the tosser will start creating bundles from 1
(one) again but for the new day. if a bundle has not been
transmitted by the next tosser run, the tosser may add pkts to
the existing bundle file or it may place them in a second
    bundle with the extension incremented.

so either way is fine and affects how the tosser creates bundles and where it adds new outbound pkts. remember, zero byte files do not take any drive space so there's no problem with having them...

not to mention that those bundles probably don't need to be in a flo file, either... their names looked like they might be proper but there's not enough info to go by in these posts to be sure :(

You don't actually even need a nodelist if you have your uplinks
and domains configured properly. You need to take a close look at
your sbbsecho.ini file, and correct all the mistakes in there.
It's telling you right there above that it can't find those files,
so you probably have a typo somewhere. Besides that, the name
NODELIST.NA doesn't make any sense. Nodelists are numbered
something like NODELIST.087 or something. Not .NA.

you're right... it doesn't make sense... there wasn't anything like that in the corrected sbbsecho.ini file that i sent back to him...

on the nodelist numbering, they won't be numbered if you use tickit to unpack them and copy them to a nodelist directory for binkit to use ;)

Not .NA.

Have you looked at these pages on the Wiki:

    http://wiki.synchro.net/config:sbbsecho.ini

    http://wiki.synchro.net/util:sbbsecho

For some reason the echolists was still populated in echocfg,
even though I had cleared them. I finally got them to delete
after many hours of pulling my hair out.

OK, well I still don't really understand how "echolists" got
    intertwined with "nodelists". But anyway...

Another thing to consider is that you are not *required* to use
echocfg. I prefer to just manually edit sbbsecho.ini with a
standard text editor. Probably would have been much easier to
solve this particular issue with that method.

no... tickit's nodelist file management tool extracts the file from the archive and renames it to an exact file name... neither tickit or binkit have the ability to figure out a numerical julian day nodelist extension so the easiest thing is what it/they currently do...

for example, all of my Z1DAILY.Zxx archives are opened and the internal Z1DAILY.xxx file is extracted, renamed to fidonet.txt, and placed in my /sbbs/ftn/nodelist directory...

if i were using binkit, then binkit would read /sbbs/ftn/nodelist/fidonet.txt for the contact information of a node not in my linked nodes...

since i'm currently using binkd, my binkd nodelist compiling script reads fidonet.txt and creates a binkd node listing file that binkd uses...

the same is done for all of the nodelists i have...

    $ ls -la /sbbs/ftn/nodelist

Ahhh, OK, I see what you meant. The "Nodelist Handler" script
stuff. I don't even bother with those, I just occasionally unzip
a regular Nodelist (NODELIST.Z87) and get NODELIST.087, and then
copy that to my nodelist directory (and edit it's reference line).
That's why I was focused in on the "numbered" nodelists... All good.

Look in your sbbsecho.ini for "NODELIST.NA" and "minftn", whatever those
    are,
and remove them. Maybe you were trying to configure echolists?

I had removed those entries and any changes for outbox, but they had still shown up in echocfg as never manually being changed in sbbsecho.ini.

It was after I had updated my Developer edition that when I was working on tweaking the board, any changes that I had made manually in sbbsecho.ini was not reflecting in echocfg. I think that I have it now, just have to check the folders and logs every now and then. Lucky that I do not get any traffic besides myself just logging in, so doing these updates are not causing endusers
    any issues.

I think it's quite useful for an initial setup of a board,
especially for a new sysop. Once you've got a decent working
version of sbbsecho.ini, I agree that it's easier to edit it
    manually with your preferred editor.

Haven't tried 'medit', I generally use 'nano' (which is what this
