Tuesday, 12/05/17 6 to 9 PM at the Hulen Mall food court, at 4800 South
Hulen Street, in southwest Fort Worth, TX.

We had four gamers at one table this nippy & breezy evening. Plus Trevor showed
up at 6:26... for a little while.

Our first game was my Maharaja: Palace Building in India. The game was new to Duane, Michael L, and Connor. We used the optional rule for the Yogi; who provides an extra action chit (Shiva).

Usually I'm the first guy to manipulate the governor's track. Today it was Michael L (on turn 3, I think). Though I soon followed suit. I was the first to
take the Yogi, and use the blue Shiva chit provided to take a third action.

As to changing characters, I did so six times. Michael L changed five times.. While Connor and Duane only did so twice. Over half were not voluntary.

As far as scoring the cities, I managed to make some money every turn (either 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place). I think there were at least two turns Duane and Connor made nothing. That had a severe trickle down affect on their finances, which curtailed their ability to build palaces, which is the name of the game. So at the halfway mark (the end of turn 4) Michael L and I had both built four palaces, while Duane and Connor had only built 1-2 each.

As game end drew nigh (the beginning of turn 7) Michael L and I were still neck
and neck, as we'd both built 5 palaces so far. Then he made a critical mistake
on his decision wheel for turn 7. For some reason he assumed having character #6, the Artisan, would allow him to build a palace. When he tried to do when his turn came around I pointed out, no, its ability is to reduce palace cost from 12 to 9. Unfortunately neither of the two choices he'd selected on his decision wheel were "build a palace". Ug! He groaned. And.... that's where he lost the game. For I did build a palace. And to throw salt into Michael L's wound, I pointed out that of the two things he'd selected to do, he didn't have
the funds for both. so the rest of us received 2 free gold from the bank.

As we entered turn eight I knew all I had to do was build one more palace to win. Michael L might have tied me if he'd had the cash to build two palaces that turn. Alas he did not. Yet if he had, we would have had to go to the first
tie breaker, who ended with the most money, to determine the winner.. That however was not to be.

Scores: Michael W 7 (15 gold), Michael 6 (13 gold), Connor 4 (7 gold), Duane 3 (13 gold). Duration: one hour and 44 minutes (a little long, but we did have 3 new players). The game lasted 8 turns.

I believe I neglected to ask how the others liked the game. I did suggest to Duane and Connor that in future playings they might consider changing characters more often. For that can have two effects. First, you get one that helps you achieve your goals more easily. And second, taking a character away from an opponent can sometimes throw them into a tailspin, as they had been counting on having its ability to make their shoe-string operation work financially.

Next up, my Roll Through the Ages. Play order; Michael L, Michael W, Duane, then Connor. After three turns I think everyone was rolling four dice, while I still threw three. So I allocated more workers to cities and caught up to Michael L's five dice. Connor and Duane kept rolling four.

There was very little competition on the monuments (except Michael L finishing the Obelisk before Connor could). Connor built the puny Step Pyramid, Duane constructed the mighty Great Pyramid in only two turns (Zounds!) I built the Great Wall. Michael L built the Temple.

As to Developments, I only bought three, while Michael L and Duane purchased four. Connor ended the game by buying his fifth. Connor had also miraculously taken no negative VPs from disasters. That's almost unheard of. The rest of us had lost 8-9 points that way.

Scores: Duane 21, Connor 18, Michael L 17, Michael W 15. Duration: 36 minutes. We finished at the stroke of 9 o'clock. Everyone enjoyed the game.
