Tuesday, 10/24/17 6 to 8:40 PM at the Hulen Mall food court, at 4800 South Hulen Street, in southwest Fort Worth, TX.

We eventually had six gamers at one table. Plus Duane popped in for two minutes
    around 6:40.

First up, my Medici, which was new to Evan and Chris. We all began with 30 points (which is what players bid with). Round 1 - Malachi was fortunate enough
to gain the lone Gold card. Yet he paid so much for it that it barely helped his overall score at round end. Connor and I used a minimum spending strategy. At round end our scores were all in the 39 to 51 point range. Round 2 - Scores began to spread out more. Michael L won the Gold card, which helped his ship total a great deal. Yet Evan and I outscored him by a point at round end; 68 to
    67. Malachi only moved up 4 points, from 48 to 52, due to some outlandish bids. Connor gained a few points. While poor Chris actually lost points, dropping from 39 to 30. Round 3 - Malachi made more ludicrous bids. Not trying to win cards that would help him, but merely to irk others that wanted the lot up for bid. Basically he went kamikaze, and tried to take down as many players with him as possible. He hurt Connor some, the rest of us remained relatively unscathed. Malachi won the Gold card. But even that didn't help him. At game end Connor had reached the top of the Fur commodities pyramid. Michael L was tops in Dye, Evan reached the summit in Cloth, and I lead in Grain. We had a three-way tie for Spice among Chris, Connor, and myself.

Final scores: Michael L 114, Michael W 99, Evan B 95, Connor 56, Malachi 41.. Duration: one hour and four minutes. Everyone enjoyed the game.

Evan left, and the rest of us played Michael L's Coup, which was new only to me. The others had played many times and *loved* it. Whereas I'd been trying to
avoid it for years, as I was pretty sure it wasn't my cup of tea. For it seemed a party game; a type I loathe. Yet maybe I was wrong. So I listened to the rules. Well, that was more difficult than you'd think. For as soon as Michael L began Malachi talked over him. And... just kept talking! Two things. First, that extraneous "noise" drove me to distraction. For it *NEVER* stopped.
How any one person could talk for 55 minutes straight (and hardly ever say a thing worth listening to) is incredible. Oh, but my own personal twilight zone episode didn't stop with one game. For the others, in love with Coup, decided we needed to play five games of it. Oy!

The game has no score. Its a question of forcing all but one player to drop out, who is then declared the winner. Game #1 - Malachi won in 7 minutes. Game #2 - Michael L won in 7 minutes. Game #3 - Malachi won in 15 minutes. Game #4
Chris K won in 8 minutes. Game #5 - Malachi won in 7 minutes. I think everyone
had a wonderful time playing Coup, except me, who hated every second of it.

As to rating Coup on BGG I'll try to separate the game itself from the major annoyance of having someone talk in my ear for 55 minutes straight.

Coup is indeed a party game; a type I loathe. You know the type. Where being sober is actually a hindrance. And its core is all about bluffing. A mechanism I don't care for when its the majority of a game. Yes, there is some slight strategy to it, but not enough to offset its minuses in my book. I vow to never
play it again. Coup is the worst game I've played this year. I rated it a "2" on BGG.

free to join us for a game.
