Tuesday, 08/29/17 6 to 9:09 PM at the Hulen Mall food court, at 4800 South Hulen Street, in southwest Fort Worth, TX.

We had eight gamers at two tables this evening, including newcomer Chris K.

Table #1 - First, Zach E’s Valley of the Kings, which was new to Michael L and Connor. Scores: Zach E 16, Michael L 13, Maggie 10, Connor 6.

Then, my Roll Through the Ages. which was new to Maggie and Michael L. Zach took a lot of disaster hits (15). Connor completed two large monuments for 18 points.

    Scores: Michael L 29, Connor 25, Maggie 17, Zach E 15.

Table #2 - My Tempus, which was new to the rest. As it was a four player game we took turns placing ten terrain megahexes. I managed to form a five hex lake with my last tile. Then we placed our initial three population tokens. Initial play order was: Emanuel, Michael W, Chris, then Michael Z. As our newly created
continent had basically four areas I expected everyone to sort of take a corner. Well, that's pretty much what Emanuel, Chris and I did, then Michael Z placed his black tokens, basically in the center, and abutting my purple folks,
pretty much thwarting my movement towards the center (or basically anywhere). OK, so we're going to play dirty even before turn one! I mentally marked Michael Z's name down for eventual retribution. At the time Emanuel could have blocked Michael Z from quickly spreading out to other megahexes. But this never
occurred to Emanuel until the game was 2/3's over. By then Michael had crossed
the lake and invaded three more megahexes. Meanwhile I was bottled up on my peninsula. So I did the only thing I could, breed like crazy.

Michael Z was the first to build a (level 2) city. Chris soon followed suit..
few turns later so did Emanuel. Yet by that time Michael Z had three cities, and Chris two. The game is played over ten ages (turns). I didn't get a city down until turn eight (a level 3 affair). I could have built sooner, but it would have severely impacted my breeding ability.

At the 3/4 mark it sure appeared Michael Z would win easily, and I'd come in dead last. Finally, on turn nine I made my big move, creating two level four cities. Ah, but then Emanuel built two more cities and it seemed he'd coast to victory.

It all came down to turn ten, the last one. The only place I could expand was to destroy Michael Z's level 2 city that had kept me bottled up on my peninsula. But just whacking it wasn't enough, I needed to use another action to then build a level 3 city of mine on its ruins. I did. Even so, I figured Emanuel would edge me out in final scoring. Speaking of which...

Chris won the bonus 3 points for achieving Flight in final scoring. Then we totaled up our non-mountain hexes and city values. At that time Emanuel had an impressive six cities, while Michael Z and I had four, and Chris three.. I was surprised by who won.

Scores (non-mountain hexes + city points + Flight): Michael W 23 (9+14+0), Emanuel 22 (5+17+0), Michael Z 19 (8+11+0), Chris K 18 (6+9+3). Duration: two hours and 18 minutes. Which is long for a four player game. Everyone enjoyed the game.
