Saturday, 08/26/17 2 to 6:30 PM at Y2Komics, in southwest Fort Worth, TX.

This was another of our irregularly scheduled weekend sessions. We had two gamers at one table this afternoon.

First up, my Hive, which was new to Michael L. We played five games. I let my opponent go first (an advantage) every game.
Game #1 - Victory to Michael W in 7 minutes.
Game #2 - Victory to Michael W in 5 minutes.
Game #3 - Victory to Michael L in 8 minutes.
Game #4 - Victory to Michael L in 9 minutes.
Game #5 - Victory to Michael W in 8 minutes.

Next, my Roma, which was also new to Michael L. My opponent put down a Forum very early and began raking in several VPs with it for a few turns. I used my Nero card to destroy it. Yet a minute later Michael L plopped another Forum down in the same place. Oy! I then placed my own Forum and began raking in more
VPs, while my opponent was then unable to activate his for quite a while (he couldn't roll a 6, while I just kept rolling 2s to activate mine). Soon the VP chips in the bank ran low. But by then I had a large VP chip advantage. Shortly
thereafter the bank ran out; game over.

    Scores: Michael W 26, Michael L 10. Duration: 45 minutes.

Our next game was my Naval War of 1812, also new to Michael L. He took the Americans, while I commanded the British. I immediately began sinking his merchantmen. Soon I had over a dozen points to his 2-3. It was a long while before Michael L got around to attacking my merchantmen. For he spent the first
half of the game duking it out with my warships. And... getting the short end of the stick most of the time. So my score continued to climb. Now it was up to
about 20. If it got to 24 the game would be over. Yet at that point I seemed to plateau, and was having a devil of a time gaining any more VPs. The problem was the accuracy of my gunnery fell off sharply, and Michael L began winning our warships duels. So his score rose to around 10. Yet in the end I managed to
limp over the victory threshold by getting a couple of my merchantmen "home" and then sinking one more blue American warship..

So the game didn't go the distance, five major game turns. (But then they seldom do.) We only got through three.

    Scores: Michael W / British 26, Michael L / Americans 10. Duration: 45 minutes.

Our last game was my Zèrtz, which was also new to Michael L. I mentioned I play the game poorly, but I really like it. To play well one needs the ability to see three moves ahead. Alas I generally can only manage to see two. Not so with my opponent. We played thrice. The first two using the Standard rules, and
the last game using the Tournament rules (which are a bit harder).

Game #1 - Victory to Michael L in 10 minutes, by taking two of each color (white, gray, & black).

Game #2 - Victory to Michael L in 12 minutes, by taking two of each color. I at
least came close to winning this game.

Game #3 - Victory to Michael L in 5 minutes, by taking four white marbles. As he was now whipping me in half the time, obviously I was getting worse and/or he was getting even better.

My impression was Michael L enjoyed all four games we played today.

See BoardgameGeek http://www.boardgamegeek.com/ for more information on the games mentioned above. And if you're in the area on a Tuesday night feel
free to join us for a game.
