From Grease@1:103/705 to All on Fri Nov 15 09:55:00 2019
I know this probably come up often, but I am having trouble setting this up. I read the wikis on SBBSEcho, Binkit and Tickit and I thought I had it set up right. I found a great article from Lord Time, but it was from 1996. Something differrent something same.

I can send and receive Netmail and I connect to the right place when I poll. But I get nothing from my connection (1:396/45). I checked my sbbsecho.log, and this is what I get:

<Date> <Time> Invalid Area File line, expected link address(es) after echo tag:
    'Fido_ECH_OName ECH_OName FidoNet'

I checked my Echocfg. In the last secion called Echo List, I put in 1:396/45 for my hub.
I checked my areas.bbs. it shows:
    Fido_ECH_OName ECH_OName

    That's all it has.
Any ideas? What else do you need to help me out?

Sorry, it is. for example, it is:

    FIDO_10TH_AMD 10TH_AMD

I'm left handed. Was not typing clearly.

Are you saying that the last night is verbatim from your areas.bbs file?

It's supposed to have the Fido echolist name, the name of the echo on your BBS, and a list of Fidonet addresses of your uplinks and downlinks. One message area per line.

It was pretty close, except with more echoes.
I went back today, and reran the areas.bbs in SCFG. I put in the uplink, and it added it! I don't have any downlinks, so it is blank there.
Now to find out if I need to areafix the echoes I want, or if he turned them all on and give him a poll.

    Thanks, you noticed it first.

not sure but this is how a line looks on my areas.bbs
    fidonet_10th_amd 10TH_AMD 1:396/45

That was it. I somehow missed the uplink when I setup the areas.bbs.
Now to get through the password with areafix.

It needs to have the Fido address of your hub after that, like
    this:

    FIDO_FIDONEWS FIDONEWS 1:3634/12

You can manually edit /sbbs/data/areas.bbs to add that, or it's
easier to choose "Export Areas" in the Message Group menu within
SCFG. Choose the "areas.bbs" format and it will write out the
file properly for you, for all areas.

So your area file (data/areas.bbs) doesn't have a link address on that line.

    See this for details:
    http://wiki.synchro.net/util:sbbsecho#area_file

I checked my Echocfg. In the last secion called Echo List, I put in
    1:396/45

    Any ideas?

That hub address in the EchoList section of echocfg is for forwarded area-fix requests. It has nothing to do with your area file.
