• Echo message loss

From Lupine Furmen@1:103/705 to All on Tue Nov 5 22:45:16 2019
I don't know what is going on, I do a %rescan on my FTN feed, areafix responds that it's rescanning 300+ messages in 55 echoes, but they are not showing up in
my message bases. I've rechecked my message base settings, but the messages are
just vanishing into the ether. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that those messages are already in your message base,
so when they show up again, SBBSecho is seeing them as dupes.

Look at /sbbs/data/sbbsecho.log and see if you see evidence of
    that.

Nope, SBBS is showing that there are 0 messages total in the echoes.

OK..... what does sbbsecho.log say? That's the key to figuring it
out. Perhaps it doesn't know where to put the messages? All the
areas are defined properly in SCFG? Your AREAS.BBS file is
    accurate?

the messages may not be there but their signatures may still be in the dupe database...

consider an FTN area... the spec says MSGID cannot repeat for three years so maybe you set your dupe retention to 1100 days (just over three years)... now, you only want to keep say 60 days of messages in the areas... so messages older than 60 days are purged but their signatures are retained for 1100...

It's all working now. I think it was all down to the areas.bbs file. Had to make some manual changes inside the file and put it in the data folder rather than in the CTRL folder where I had been told to put it.

Not sure who would have told you to put it there...

    It's clearly documented:
