• Dutch FidoNet on SBBS 3.17 dont get it working

From Hawkeye@1:103/705 to All on Wed Jul 24 16:00:52 2019
    Hi Guys,

I tried to setup fidonet with SBBS 3.17b but I don't get it working if I read the wiki etc... My node is 2:280/311

I have a host I have to poll. The google results give me gone websites :(

Where to put the nodelist? I cant find a BACKBONE.NA file, according the dutch NC they dont work with that.

    Can anyone help me please?

So I've just been through this exercise - and have setup Synchro as well.

I think the nodelist can go anywhere - as long as you reference it properly in sbbsecho.ini (use echocfg to configure that).

I created my BACKBONE.NA by hand - you might need to do the same. (Havent figured out where there is a list of all available Fido echos - and I'm too scared to ask.)

Yes and no. Yes I put it in another area (Dovenet in stead of Sysops) and also some months ago but the dutch fidonet guy gave me some pointers but cannot help
me. The info I found then here didnt result in it working so my second try now.

Any guide or step by step tutorial text or youtube ;) you can point me to?

    Any help appreciated.

    No, but its pretty easy.

BACKBONE.NA is a test file with two columns.

First one is the Echo tag, the second column is a free form description.

You can pretty much download the current BACKBONE.NA file from most Fido connected BBSes. The latest is always available on my BBS via telnet to winserver.org.

That is weird. Maybe I didnt saw it will search for that message.

Oh, what excactly did you try and didn't work?

I tried to follow the instructions in the wiki and found some articles on google but I couldnt follow them because they were pointing to US related fido things.

Did you get netmail working? Forget everything else until you know that netmail is working.

No I didnt. The dutch fido hub said the same. Can you pin point me to an instruction to do this? Tommorow I will focus on netmail also checking wiki.

    Thanks.

Do you have an FTN address assigned yet? If you do, then you configure that address in SCFG->Networks->FidoNet->Address. If you have chosen a FidoNet mailer and have it installed and configured, then simply using the (E)mail -> (N)etmail menu option from the BBS (terminal server), you should be able to send a netmail message to your hub (e.g. "sysop@your-hubs-FTN-address") and ask for confirmation of receipt.

If that works, then you can ask if your hub supports remote Area manager (aka AreaFix) requests, agree on a password to use for AreaFix and start sending those requests via NetMail, e.g.

    To: areafix@your-hubs-FTN-address
    Subj: <your-areafix-password>

    Body: %HELP

You should get an automated reply message telling you the available areafix messages (e.g. %LIST, %+ALL, etc.) and you can send more requests to add/remove echo areas using the supported areafix commands.
