Ok.. I give up. What's the secret to MRC? What changes can I try to make it work?

Ok.. I give up. What's the secret to MRC? What changes can I try to make it work?

    Look at [MRC-Connector] in ctrl/services.ini.
    Look at [Services] in ctrl/sbbs.ini.
    Look at [Global] in ctrl/sbbs.ini.
If any of the above have an "Interface" key, note the value.

    Look at xtrn/mrc/mrc-client.ini.
If you found an "Interface" value above, this is what "server" should be. Otherwise, "server" should be localhost.

    Look at [MRC-Connector] in ctrl/services.ini.
    Note the "Port" setting.
    Look at xtrn/mrc/mrc-client.ini.
Ensure that "port" is set to the value determined above.

    Look at xtrn/mrc/mrc-connector.ini.
    "server" should be mrc.bottomlessabyss.net.
    "port" should be 5000.

If you altered services.ini or mrc-connector.ini, restart services / restart your BBS.

If you made any changes at all while following these steps, you can now try running mrc-client.js and
    hope to see something new.

If it works, great. If not, try looking at your BBS' logs. Watch for any lines containing "MRC".

If you have some other service on your machine listening on port 5000, then you'll need to move
mrc-connector.js to some other port. That would require adjustments in ctrl/services.ini and in
    xtrn/mrc/mrc-client.ini.

It should not matter if this port is open to the outside. Connections to the mrc-connector.js service
come from mrc-client.js on the local machine.

I did provide another lengthy reply earlier today. Did you try any of what I suggested there?

    5000/tcp open upnp

there's your problem there... either turn off uPNP or move your MRC stuff to a different port as echicken suggested...

personally speaking, i'd be dumping uPNP as a network security risk but that's just me being a network admin and detesting anything that allows users to get around my firewall rules ;)

What do you mean by "when I telnet in"? You're not supposed to telnet to the MRC service. You run the MRC client as a module/door on your BBS which the BBS user then interacts with. Unless the user happens to be connected to the BBS terminal server using Telnet, there's no Telnet protocol involved.

Okay, I see. Thanks for the clarification. I'm not too famililar with the MRC client or what that should look like when it's working correctly. Perhaps try that same thing on a BBS where it is working as expected and compare the output you see (working vs. non-working)?

Would double check and see if it was updated, or there is an updated MRC client... I seem to remember something in discord about a
