• Syncterm oddity..

From Al DeRosa@1:267/157 to All on Sat Jan 18 21:33:32 2020
Hi all.. Not sure if this is bug or a configuration issue on my end.. In SyncTerm, whenever there is a prompt to enter an option after hitting the
input requested and hitting return, the cursor never drops down to the next line it sits there until the BBS starts to send info again.. So in other
words, if you have a prompt like

Enter your user name: You enter your username and hit return. The Cursor
stays on the same line even though you hit return..

Is this a config issue on my end?? Has anyone ever seen this? LOL Any info would be appreciated...

What are you connected to (e.g. server) when doing this and using what protocol? Sounds like a could be a problem on the server side.

I am connected to any BBS. I am using Telnet..

"any BBS"? So even say, Vertrauen?

I'm using SyncTERM (v1.1b) over Telnet to Vertrauen right now and don't observe the issue you're describing. It sounds like there must be something very unique about your client side setup (intermediate TCP/IP gateway or something else odd) or you're using some unusual version or build of SyncTERM or I don't know what.

Yup any BBS, it's weird, when encounter a prompt that is looking for an input you enter the input and hit return and the cursor stays on the line.. I'm
using v1.1b SDL version if there is another version I am all for trying it..
I use a number of term programs, Netrunner, CGTerm, neither of them do this.. I'm just trying to be lazy by using a term that does it all.. ;)

If I uninstall, is there any folders or files left behind That I could clean out and try a clean re-install?? I'm open to anything..

Ok... Just did some more testing after calling into your board.. It happens
in the Commodore CG setup Not at all in ANSI mode.. Thanks for forcing me to test it more.. :)

v1.1b is not an official release, so that's a moving target. When did you download the binary you're running or did you build it yourself and if you did, when did you get or update the source code from cvs.synchro.net before building it?

I use a number of term programs, Netrunner, CGTerm, neither of them do this.. I'm just trying to be lazy by using a term that does it all.. ;)

SyncTERM definitely shouldn't be doing what you're describing. It sounds like your connection is configured for raw TCP and not Telnet.

If I uninstall, is there any folders or files left behind That I could

out and try a clean re-install?? I'm open to anything..

You don't need to re-install anything. Maybe rebuild the executable or just download/overwrite the binary when the latest downloaded from syncterm.net. But what you're describing doesn't sound like any bug I've ever seen or heard of in SyncTERM.

So... you're connecting to Commodore BBSes? They often use raw TCP and not Telnet. SyncTERM supports raw telnet too.

Ok.... Then I will re-download the one from the website... I'll be honest
