From the doctor@1:103/705 to Digital Man on Tue Mar 8 09:18:00 2022
    Hi Rob,

So, I took out all the old BBS list stuff and just left the JSON and so... my BBS vanished from the list? Is the old format still required? I could put
it back but I was happy to get rid of the code that made it. (:

    Thanks

    The Doc.

    No.

That's probably coincidental. Are you still advertising your BBS as running Synchronet software?

Heh. Well, kind of. The code says:

    # Trick synchronet bbs list into thinking we are one of them
print "Synchronet BBS for Win32 Version 3.18"

...and then hides it. You'd have to look at the scroll back to

On the BBS list messages, the system says it's "Quarkware BBS".

atleast with the synchronet one it actively checks if they are up.
with telnetbbsguide and iptfia guide i still find bbses that are down or just misconfigured and not picking up.

speaking of the synchronet bbs list you should probably make that syncterm list available since ftp isnt working for browsers anymore. even opera removed it. i used an old version of opera browser portable to fetch it. i'm going to try that with pcmike's site since he uses some weird auth that wont allow you to get it via an external method [ftp client]

Assuming you mean "available via http", yeah, done. Tomorrow's generated sbbslist.html will include an HTTP URL instead of an FTP URL. But the list is already avaliable via HTTP at http://synchro.net/Synchronet/syncterm.lst

here's the old opera portable that still handles ftp links if anybody needs it, btw

some say they dropped it because of the lack of encryption. chrome said they dropped it because of lack of usage.

well one of them got me kicked off of paypal. i ran that BBS torrent site and they made some rule that before signing up to paypal you have to 'register' with them. i wasnt hosting any files, but they didnt care and wouldnt check to verify. also i was on paypal long before these rules. i'm sure they had me click ok to a 30 page tos update but whatever. paypal sucks dick anyways.

all i would do was pay my bills with paypal and take donations for my bbs services (which i didnt like doing).

i'm not sure but it might be the same dude that would send me emails saying he was going to 'hack me' and run this scanner shit on my web that showed all these vulnerabilities. i told him to go ahead and 'hack' me. it was just a little vm that ran LAMP. he was a former bbs user who was weird.

then i've had dumb fuckers from way back go on irc. this goes back to the old bbsnet and me taking over datastream. this guy would say sexual stuff to deuce and act weird. i found out he was going on datastream and using it, and the owner died. so i took over datastream bbs.

then i've had other guys that were drama queens over doorgames. i have some of their emails saved.

then i had one guy post on my oneliners wall a website he made about me.
it was really stupid and trying to say that i took down my bbs services for various odd reasons. i wish i would have saved that url and mirrored it because it was funny.

you shouldn't be jealous of being harrassed by lame retarded people.

I agree. Syncdata is meant for transferring data for Synchronet and related things, and isn't meant for humans to read. Things should be able to post in there as much as needed. I wouldn't normally see it anyway.

    Shrug. I don't know.

I'm not following. Who cares if he posts to syncdata fifty times a
    day?

Nightfox is probably the only one that freaks out over this.

Huh? I've never noticed how many times anyone posts in syncdata (and it doesn't bother me) I don't look at that sub and I have it disabled in my newscan. I'm not sure where you got this idea that I'd be freaked out about it..? Unless you've randomly decided to troll me?

yeah i have mine turned off for users. it's not meant for human consumption, like i said.

so you are posting every single day to the list, right?
that is a lot, though. are you trying to get on the synchronet bbs list
    by scripting that?

Well, yes. I'm not trying to do that to get on the list... I could do
that by going back to my old ways (that no one ever complained about)
of spoofing that I was Synchronet.

It's simply that I'm lazy... my software runs maintenance tasks once a
night. I could write a proper scheduler I suppose, if that will make
    folks happier.

Any opinions on just how often it should run?

Well, that is a bbs list for synchronet bbses. you really shouldn't put yourself on that website list of synchronet bbses. there's other lists out there. you're just being deceptive and i think it's just wrong to do that or think of doing that.

i see there's other systems on there that are non synchronet. if i were running the list i'd make their entries a separate link.

your bbs is unique and you should work that angle.

Yeah. I talked to DM on here just the other day, and he said that the
web based list is for Synchronet Only... so i don't appear on it. That's
fair enough and his call... and I'm no longer pretending to be one.

He also said it was fine for me to send the messages, and I would appear
on the BBS based list, which I do. I also have a BBS based list (with previews) and I don't limit it to QBBS only. (:

Thanks for saying. I agree with you, btw. (:
