• Last few callers...

From Al DeRosa@1:267/157 to All on Sat Oct 1 21:39:30 2022
Ok I give.. I know I am running an old version. 3.18, I am only running it as a Door Server and it runs fine so I don't see a need to upgrade it to the latest.. Back when I put this door server online, I turned on the last few callers section. I want to turn it off now. I changed the line in modopts.ini and it still is on. I checked my xternal programs area and it is not listed there at all. Is there a way to turn it off in 3.18? If not I guess I will have to upgrade to 3.19b but I would like to just turn it off on this one.. Any info I have checked the wiki and everywhere else I can guess.. Thanks in advance..

I think you're refering to the logonlist module. It's disabled by setting show_logon_list=false in the [logon] section of modopts.ini.

Yea, I think so too.. LOL Let me ask you, if I do a full clean install with the latest files. What files can I copy from my old install to keep my user list and doors list, like I said this is a DoorParty type server (which uses the Door Party front end of RLOGIN to the menu) if I can do that I think it might be a lot better off, I did an upgrade to 3.18b last year and now I am seeing it wasn't a complete upgrade but a half assed one.. Jeez.. THanks again for the help..

I work hard to make the upgrade path smooth (no "full clean [re]install" should ever be needed). Just make sure you're running 'jsexec update' after each update/upgrade.

I know, that is why I was shocked when I saw that my modopts.ini was outdated.. I think the way I have been doing them is wrong, Actually, I haven't done one on this server since about a year and half ago. Why change what isn't broken?!? I have been wanting to rebuild this machine anyway. I am going to make sure everything is good and do it in the background.. Thanks again for all the help it means a lot..

modopts.ini is not automatically updated, nor does it need to be. You just add things to your modopts.ini when you need/want them (e.g. based on instructions from recommendations or documentation).

I have never updated modopts.ini, but it was missing the section of last_user listing.. It only had the question on whether or not to show it.

I think the way I have been doing them is wrong

    What way is that?

I have been updating exec via the separate update files, sbb_dev.zip, run.zip, ctrl etc. then running jsexec.js update.. Last night I did a full re-install and read the Wiki of what directories to copy over, installed my door Server Rlogin package in the mods directory and everything worked like a charm.. Just gotta finish updating the VM it resides in and it will be ready to go online in place of my current one..

Thanks again Rob, everything is in fact better then before. Everything is working as described and now that I have a new set up, I can rebuild my directories and instead of having 11 directories of doors, break it down into a more manageable 5 or 6.. What is in there is what counts, it's not dick waving as you put it to have a Door Server with a lot of games for people if they are into it. It's gives users a choice to play or use what they want. I don't force anyone to call my system's, if they don't like what they see, they don't call. No loss to me, I will still enjoy doing what I am doing with my systems. To me that is all that matters..

yes, but aren't we supposed to be running systems for users and not ourselves?

that's where sysops lost their way.

My apologies for my last response.. There was no need for it. I understand what you are saying, I just offer as much as I can to my users.. As for my comment that as long as it makes me happy thats all that matters, yes we are doing this for the users at least that is what I did for the 12 years I ran a board from the 80's to the 90's, when I got back into it in 2018 I said I was doing it for me now to enjoy it more then my previous time. I ran the largest Commodore BBS Network/Support group for Image BBS for just about 9 years, and it was all work and no play.. Now I am doing it for me thus my answer.. We're good.. Again my apologies for my short snide comment..
