• TikTok Boom

From Mike Powell@1:2320/105 to ALL on Sun Oct 23 11:14:00 2022
So yesterday I saw an advertisement on our local PBS affiliate about a
special that will air Monday (possibly as part of the Frontline series, but
I am not 100% sure on that) where they plan to cover the social phenomenon which is Tik Tok.

From the ad, I take that they are going to cover what makes it so much more addictive than other social media sites/apps. They also are planning to
show how voices and political view are silenced via "shadow banning,"
including the reduction of likes, suggestions-to-view, etc.

Ironically, this has been a complaint from conservatives for a while, but apparently it is also starting to affect the less-conservative, per the examples used in the advertisement. That, of course, now makes it an issue.

If you are interested in what social media companies are up to when it
comes to making themselves addictive, amplifying, or de-amplifying, the opinions of their users, etc., this sounds like a good show to watch.

I also just checked my listings... it is not Frontline, but American Lens,
and the episode is called "Tiktok, Boom." Locally it is airing from
10-11:30pm ET on Monday night the 24th. Check local listings for viewing
times for your area. "Explore the power and complexity of technology
through the lens of TikTok and the Gen Z influencers who know it best."

Back when it was the two ladies (sorry, I forget names!) delivering the
nightly news, I did. They broke that trust some when the Indian fellow who replaced the lady who unfortunately passed on insulted persons who didn't
vote for who he thought they should have at the end of a newscast. I
started to question them some after that. ;(

"Team players" are more desirable in the leftist industry. Just about anyone who can read and speak ought to be capable of anchoring the news, but during this time of need (to keep Trump out of office,) only the best will do.
