Congratulations! I am very impressed. You are a wizard at fido tech. :)

Good to see that HPT is quite doable with SEM. But.. would it be
sustainable for someone who is not too programmatically inclined?

They got an echo for things like that. ;)

Well done! Was it a comfortable fit with HPT?

    Cheers,
    Paul.

    :)

Give up, you'll have me blushing -:8)

Good to see that HPT is quite doable with SEM.

Yes, as is CrashMail but it's not the choice of tosser that matters, it's the choice of message base format that matters. After a mammoth testing session the other day, I make the following observations:

    Tossers
    -------
[1] hpt and CrashMail will both create JAM and *.MSG message bases.
[2] hpt will create a Squish message base, CrashMail will not.

    SemPoint
    --------
[1] Will not interpret a JAM message base correctly.
[2] Will not interpret a Squish message base correctly.
[3] Interprets a *.MSG message base correctly.

In the case of [1] and [2] above, SemPoint adds garbage on the line directly below the origin line and does not show the first line of a message(s). The first line is usually, but not always, a "greeting" line.

    Support for external config files
    ---------------------------------
    AREAS.BBS - crashes SemPoint.

GOLDED.CFG - SemPoint doesn't appear to do anything with it, i.e. no areas show up in SemPoint's area list.

SQUISH.CFG - SemPoint reads it and automatically sets up areas in SemPoint's area list.

I think that just about covers it so far.

But.. would it be sustainable for someone who is not too
    programmatically inclined?

    No way :(

    Regards,
    Martin

Yeah, I'll post my test shots in FIDOTEST in future :-))

Well done! Was it a comfortable fit with HPT?

The fit was very comfortable, it was all the configuring of hpt and CrashMail plus all the testing that was uncomfortable.

    Martin

I don't recall any missing "first line" in my Sempoint-usage days. I
know that I either used Fmail or Fastecho back in the day.

Since JAM is broken in SEM, I probably just used the "default" Squish, so that rules out Fmail.

.: I probably I used FastEcho, and its corresponding FASTECHO.CFG. I'll give it a go with FastEcho and see what develops.

I *do* recall a very smooth point/node setup with SEM. So, I never encountered the many issues you found with the alternative .CFG files and/
    or JAM format.

I think that just about covers it so far.

Thank you for your work and report.

    No way :(

Patching/bolting other programs is not ideal.

I agree but as SemPoint doesn't have its own Tosser and its own IP
    mailer, there's no other option.
