  • What's your favorite movie ever?

    That is difficult. I've enjoyed many movies over the years. Each good film has its own merits and qualities that make it stand out. Ask what film in a specific genre is favorite -- then it would be easier.

    mind are;

    Once Were Warriors
    12 Angry Men
    The Third Man
    Heroes of Telemark
    The Mist
    The Lives of Others
    The Machinist

    I could go on lol

    Thanks for giving me some new ones for my watch list

    Enjoy! Once Were Warriors was the first NZ film I watched, I was blown away
    how Morrison transformed himself for this role, he had previously played a loveable doctor. He did an interview to address the criticism the casting director received.

    12 Angry Men is notable for being one of the first/best single location
    movies.

    Heroes of Telemark - although not a great movie in itself depicts a real
    event during WWII, just remove the token beauties in the movie!

    OK.. does "the best movie" ever only count when we have seen it
    the cinema? What about home cinema? Does a small 32" cinema
    screen count? LOL

    Despite that distinction, I concur with the LotR movies. I may
    have seen at least one of the 3 twice, but only because I was
    fishing for a particular storyline, an easter egg, and I because
    I wanted to see the dragon again! :)

    It is so hard for me pick just one film out of the many I've seen
    over the years.

    In the past, I would settle down with one of the Leonard Maltin
    guides (in pocket book format) and just pick the highest rated
    movies for any particular genre. Then it would be a phone call to
    the local video store and ask if they have it. I saw many fine
    "best movie ever" films that way.

    Sometimes a particular film would enspire my to look up all the
    best rated films of a particular director or actor. The Leonard
    Martin guide for $9.99 was invaluable for that.

    I remember seeing the first Lord of the Rings in the theatre. Before the movie began they had an usher come to the front and make an announcement to the effect of:

    "This film has a running time of 2 hours and 58 minutes. There is no intermission. Please be advised that the concession stand closes at 9:30pm. If you want snacks, please get them now or before they close in an hour & a half. Restrooms will remain open for the duration of the film."

    We were there to watch it opening night. I guess they were just trying to nip any possible complaints in the bud.

    The movie that had a lasting memory for me was 'The Five Pennies' starring Danny Kaye
    and Barbara Bel Geddes. He played a coronet band member that played with Louis
    Armstrong. His daughter contracted polio, causing him to quit the band. The scene where
    the daughter lies in an Iron Lung was very moving.

    I have paid Amazon three times to see it again, that's how much I liked it, and for me it
    stands the test of time.
