Well, you did have a state license plate on the car... and didn't
appear to be carrying any contraband persons in the car... :)

    I was stopped twice.

Or they just decided to do a checkpoint for the fun of it, in case they
snagged something... We've run into them sometimes on a holiday weekend,
where they are just trolling for violations and/or drinking....

I remember driving West on I-40 and as I crossed the State Line at Arizona there was a checkpoint where I was asked if we had any Fruit in the car.

I think it was Fruit I was asked about. Too long ago. Only a memory...

    Most likely.
Insects like to lay eggs in fruit and this would keep invasive critters
out of the state. At least that was what I was told once.

yeah, too bad there's so much open border they can just fly over without detection or consequence ;)

there's probably a corporate and political tie in, too... some corporation trying to lock down pollenation services and getting the state to pass laws to help them do that... it happens/happened in many cases... hawaii, pineapples, and bees are one example...

Quite possible... they do tend to have checkpoints for all sorts of
things.... And possible infestations that might be being brought in is
another sort of things that they'd watch for.... :)
