little three bedroom house, a block from campus. (Had to have roommates to afford it).
But you had plenty of room to share with roommates with three
    bedrooms... ;)
Yep, except for one you had to go through to get to the other one.

Just a little loss of privacy there... but not too bad if the
    relationship was solid enough... ;)

I was back in Morgantown a few years ago and that house is gone now.
It probably didn't get the upkeep it needed... Was it a nice little
    house otherwise...?
    Very nice and well maintained.
It was one of those houses that cling to the side of a hill.
(Everything in Morgantown is on a hillside). One side of the house
was right on a busy sidewalk, you could reach out and touch people
passing by. The other side was a sheer drop of several hundred feet. Picture Malibu beach houses with one side on ground and the other on stilts, only without an ocean. :)

I can picture that.... that could be just a bit scary on the sheer drop side.... not a viable fire escape out those windows.... <G>

I later lived in a trailer that was on stilts as well. The bedroom
end was on solid ground, the kitchen on steel beam stilts and you
parked under the kitchen. There was also a access road there as well. Looking out the kitchen window it was like one was flying. :)
Those were later removed, something about them not being safe. :)

The only thing I'l think might not be safe would be if the ground heaved
some, so that the stilts were unbalanced from the rest... My Daddy's
cousin and her husband had a trailer on the banks of the Susquehana (if
I'm remembering the river's name right... along Rt 11/15 coming down
into Harrisburg PA)... Since the river would flood regularly, they
raised the entire trailer up on stilts, and had some storage beneath
it... but it kept the trailer from being flooded... They are both long
gone now, but the trailer, still on stilts, was still there the last
time I drove by and was able to see down the access road into the
area... :) Some of their neighbors followed their example... :)

I had the private room and just knocked first if the door were closed.

The house was oddly built, with the living room and kitchen being in
what would be the basement with the bedrooms/bath on street level.
    There were three entrances.
I had a drive way (off street parking was an extreme luxury in that
town) and then down a few steps into the the living room. The kitchen
was off from that, with stairs to the second floor (street level)
bedrooms. Off the kitchen was another door and set of steps up to the
street. (That door was seldom used).
The street level door opened into a small entry way with one bedroom
to the left, the bath at the end of the entry, a bedroom door on the
right and through that room into mine, which had a window right on the sidewalk.
So many student apartments were rat traps but this place was well
    taken care of.
The bedroom to the right (I had to pass though) had a fireplace. The
living room had one as well.

It was still the living rooms on the first floor, and the bedrooms on
the second floor, just the house was sunken one story.... :)

That would make for easy escape from the bedrooms, should there be a
fire.... ;) But also easy access into the bedrooms for a potential intruder....

The house had had a life before it was rented out for students,
    obviously.... ;)

I wonder what happened to it after you moved away, that it wasn't there
any more when you visited later.....

Yeah, just make sure of the view before you jumped. :)

We never had any problems with someone trying to break in.

When I was back there a few years ago the house to the left it was
gone as well and a parking area. Where the house was was too steep a
    drop off for anything.

Maybe it lost some of its foundation and the whole house slid off into
the abyss.... or a subsequent owner didn't take care of it.... kind of
a shame, sounds like it was a pretty neat place....
