I like the tagline "Manuals? I don't need no stinkin' manual".
Used that line a few times myself. :)
Yup, I've got that tagline, too... I don't have anything against
manuals... I've been known to use them from time to time.... Oh, and
to drive them, as well... <G>

    LOL.

    Thought you'd like that... ;)

A couple of years ago I got a good deal (at the time) for an iPhone.
But I couldn't find nothing in the manuals or web page how to
download photos to the pc. With the androids I had always used in the past it was drag and drop.
A week or so ago, thinking about my trip and all the pictures I plan
to take* e-mailing each one to myself would be time consuming. On
YouTube was a how-to video which said I needed iTunes. After
installing that it was drag and drop.
I don't know why Apple is so secretive about that. Or they just
assumed everyone was smart enough to know what to do.

Probably figured it was common knowledge, and you'd either already been
doing it or seen your friends (all of whom, of course, have iPhones with
iTunes installed) doing it.... :) But, you would think that that was
what the manual was for... to let you in on that when you didn't already know.... ;)

So are you getting that trip actually on the road soon....?

(*In the past I was careful with photo's since I didn't want to get pictures back with peoples heads cut off, blanks instead of photos,
etc. With a phone if its not good, just delete it and try again).

Same thing with the digital cameras, too.... But using one's phone does
reduce how much paraphenalia one needs to be carting... ;)

    One would think.
A feature I could never get to work was the missed call alert. I've
even had long time iPhone users stumped.
With my androids when a call was missed a little light blinked on the
blank (asleep) screen. With my SE there is no blink, you have to wake
it up for a little green mark on the phone icon to show a missed call.

So are you getting that trip actually on the road soon....?

    I'm pretty much all set.
    A few minor details.
I have my route mapped out (that still changes from time to time (oh,
such and such a place is not far from....).
Since my dates to visit are not firm I've changed my mind from
reserving a Airbnb to just staying at a motel as a walk in.
I'll soon be making my car reservations.
I'll e-mail people I'm visiting for ETA wherever they are. (Such as
you and Jim, it'll be something like "planned arrival day after tomorrow" around a certain time, as I get closer to where I'm going. Taking my
trusty laptop with me. Then when I get a few miles away a phone call.
(Will ask for the number a day or so ahead).

Same thing with the digital cameras

I've had a couple of those and somewhat disappointed.
The first was always a bit fuzzy since the pixels were so few.
The next was a Kodak but after about 8-10 photos it said "out of
memory" or battery dead*, etc. (*Even with new/freshly charged batteries).
Next was a better Kodak and the same thing.
My iPhone is the best camera ever!

With my dumb phone, it needs to be woken up, too.... but then you'll get
a display on top of the wallpaper that says that there's a missed call
(or a waiting text message)... You'd expect a smart phone to be
    smarter, though.... ;)

Do you have a rough idea when it might be...? I know that I'll be out
of town for a few days mid-month in April, and again a day or so in
May.... I'd hate to miss your visit.... :)

My niece has done professional photography... she does have a digital
camera, but I think she probably spent some bucks on it, to get a good
    one... ;)
