I'll bake sometime with shortening and a couple of days later its dry.
With lard it stays soft and moist for days on end, if it lasts that

I told my late wife that "Ever notice at certain times of day, people

    So many think that way.

Ah, yes...the barter system. Saved one from going to the store, as it

They might have that on the salad bar at Pizza Hut. We can go to

I had a terrible migraine much of last night...but just took 2 Tylenol GelCaps a couple of hours apart. The 400 milligram Ibuprofen is a tad
stronger, but I didn't want to risk setting off a stroke. My blood
pressure is good (thanks to medication), but I think it was from
spending too much time at the computer last night with the BBS tasks and

Are those the Teflon ones?? It has been so long since I used them. My Microwave Oven is crapping out, and I can't afford a new one right now.
So, I have to eat just bread and butter for awhile (sigh!).

Unless I'm doing an early morning ham radio license exam, or am on a vacation, I don't do breakfast.

So often I'll think "I don't know why I'm hungry, I just ate yesterday".

    Really.

Once in a while I'll have a large lunch and skip supper,

I hate being a bad Sysop, going to bed without dinner. :P

I had one for about 30 years.
Then one time it started sparking and making noises and had to replace

The old one had a knob you turned for the number of cooking minutes,

The new one (about five years old) has all sorts of buttons to push, etc.

I cook with good old-fashioned lard, no shortening thank you.

It seems that would be awfully greasy.

There are several bad driver video channels on You Tube. Most are from Russia, who are terrible drivers. All cars there have dash cams for
    insurance purposes.
A driver will be going down a road, someone pulls out in front of them
and the first thing they do is lay on the horn. Apparently they don't
know what the brakes are for.

    Joe,

Too often salads cut down on the slices of pizza I can put away. :)

It is the only place that has iceberg lettuce.

I'll be coming up from Louisiana.

OK, we'll have time to figure out what to do. But, I prefer buffets,
because while it can be pricey, it's all you can eat, and if you leave
that place hungry, it's your own fault.

I know the moderators would rather participate than moderate the
    scofflaws.

Speaking of scofflaws, I saw a sign awhile back that noted "North
Little Rock Public Shooting Range". I mused "I guess this is where they
line up all the folks who don't pay their taxes, and blow them away!!"

The new one (about five years old) has all sorts of buttons to push, etc.

I need to have at least an 1000 watt oven, or it takes too long to get
things to cook. You obviously don't want to overcook, or undercook the
    food.

It seems that would be awfully greasy.

Yeah, the blocks of "shortening" at Burger King for the fry vats was
like that. When I worked for them, over a 5 year time period, I did some
    of everything.

A driver will be going down a road, someone pulls out in front of them
and the first thing they do is lay on the horn. Apparently they don't JM>know what the brakes are for.

The railroad trivia question on the D-Star (ham radio) Trains and
Railroads Net last night was "What is the DB level of a train horn?",
and the bonus question was "Which is louder?? A steam whistle, or an air horn??".

The answers were 140 db (that's also where hearing problems start to
occur), and an air horn. I've seen videos of locomotive engineers with headphones or ear plugs on...and the fire trucks have those in the cab
with headphones...so, they can hear messages from the dispatcher, and
not be drowned out by the sirens and air horns.

Mine is a 900 and have learned to just add a couple of minutes to the cooking time.
Instead of five minutes give it seven or eight.

and the bonus question was "Which is louder?? A steam whistle, or an
    air horn??".

I love the sound of a steam whistle. I just get tingly and chills all
over hearing one. :) Even more so if its off in the distance with its

    Fine with me.

I'm not a food snob or foodie.

That's what my late wife felt like. She didn't care whether we ate at McDonald's or The Olive Garden...food was food. She also asked "who is paying"...not like the first woman who I was engaged to. She wanted me
to ALWAYS take her to the most expensive place, ALWAYS pick up the tab,
and FORSAKE everything outside of work (including hobbies), and spend
every moment with her. I ended that relationship just before Christmas,
1985 (we never got married), and it felt like I had the world had been
    lifted off of my shoulders.

That'll be a lesson for the others! :)

    Or like the tagline below...

Instead of five minutes give it seven or eight.

I might go for that...being a frugal cheapskate. Plus, the ovens can
be heavy to lift and move. I'm going to have to "smuggle" the dead oven
    to a dumpster somewhere.

I love the sound of a steam whistle. I just get tingly and chills all

four. Around midnight he came into the trailer where I was eating
complaining about not getting his dinner. I asked "Want one of my

Thankfully I'm on no meds. The closest to that was some vile tasting
cough syrup, and not so bad drops, with a recent cold.
When I busted my shoulder a few years ago I was given some Rx pain
killer, Lo something or other. I was told to take one every so many
hours and I did at first then cut it half and finally stopped and still
had a lot of them left over. I was to take them for like 10 days but did
for only like five days, if that long.
I find I graze more often. Instead of breakfast/lunch its bite of
this, a bite of that. Then supper around 4.30 and that's that till the
    next morning.
I eat very little candy. I like those fun size candy bars since any
craving is taken care. If I buy a full sized bar often that will last a
couple of days. (One time while working I brought a full size candy bar
one summer day. I had a couple of small bites I tore off, wrapped it
back up and put in the cubby hole of the golf cart. One nice spring day
I was giving the cart a much needed cleaning and found that forgotten
left over Snickers bar. I put it back when the cart was cleaned. Then a
few weeks later had another bite. That candy bar lasted a year or more.
It had melted, frozen, thawed, froze, melted again several times that
    year.) :)
When my sweet tooth acts up I'll often have a teaspoon of plain sugar instead.
I'm not a big candy eater, but I love sweet rolls, cakes, pies, etc.

    Joe,

I'm perfectly happy with a PB&J sandwich as I am with a big juicy steak.

I was working a ham radio special event station several years ago,
Skywarn Recognition Day, the first Saturday of December every year. One
ham came on the frequency to make a contact, his callsign suffix was
PBJ. When he said it stood for "peanut butter and jelly", the woman and
her husband (both licensed hams), who were working the HF bands, busted
    out in laughter!!

    Nancy,

That looks like the right spelling... I've not really looked for them in NB>a long while, so I don't know if they are still around... seems to me, NB>though, that I've seen them relatively recently... maybe in one of the NB>stores up nearer our camp....

I saw some cheese danish at the store the other day, but was short on
funds, and mainly looking for bread and lunch meat. Got 4 loaves of
bread for $1 each, and the "Buddig" brand lunch meat packs. 90 calories
per pack, for under 70 cents each (bought 40 of them). With 2 sandwiches
at lunch, and 2 at dinner, it lasts me for 10 days. Plus, I can do bread
and butter for something else, until I can grocery shop again in early
April. But, my car is in the shop until after April 3, so I'm stuck at
    home for 10 days.

They've got various different coatings now, not just Teflon... I don't NB>have any of them, though... I just use butter in my pan....

I used to...but it's too hard for me to stand in one spot for long

Are you sure it wasn't lye soap....?

Might have been. When I worked at Burger King, we "soaked" the vent
hood screens in a lye based solution overnight, then rinsed them out the
next morning...for all the grease that had accumulated in them.

When I worked in silkscreen printing, to remove the "ghost image" from

have protective clothing on when using it.

    Joe,

Thankfully I'm on no meds. The closest to that was some vile tasting
cough syrup, and not so bad drops, with a recent cold.

I'm on 5 per day...but I know folks who are on a lot more.

When I busted my shoulder a few years ago I was given some Rx pain
killer, Lo something or other. I was told to take one every so many JM>hours and I did at first then cut it half and finally stopped and still JM>had a lot of them left over. I was to take them for like 10 days but did JM>for only like five days, if that long.

When I had to have all my teeth removed in late May, 2000, and got
dentures in September...the pain wasn't the worst part...it was the
bleeding. I think I only took one pain pill.

I eat very little candy. I like those fun size candy bars since any

I rarely eat chocolate anymore, due to the oxylates leading to kidney
    stones.

When my sweet tooth acts up I'll often have a teaspoon of plain sugar
    instead.

It also helps the medicine go down. <G>

I'm not a big candy eater, but I love sweet rolls, cakes, pies, etc.

That settles it. We'll go to Golden Corral for lunch when you come to
    visit. :)

Often times I'll snack between when I get up and have supper. Once in
a while I'll have a large lunch and skip supper,
We've gotten that way, too.... Some of our meds need to be taken with
food, but one can have just a snack with them and things are fine...

Thankfully I'm on no meds. The closest to that was some vile
tasting cough syrup, and not so bad drops, with a recent cold.

We don't bother much with OTC meds, except for when that's how to get
certain meds that are prescribed.... :) But my reflux and Richard's
heart condition do require some medication... :)

When I busted my shoulder a few years ago I was given some Rx pain
killer, Lo something or other. I was told to take one every so many
hours and I did at first then cut it half and finally stopped and
still had a lot of them left over. I was to take them for like 10 days but did for only like five days, if that long.

Lodine, perhaps....? It's a fairly high-powered non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)... it didn't work for me for pain
control... I've never taken pain meds for as often or as long as they permit.... Unlike antibiotics, you don't have to take the whole run to
get the benefit, though.... and that's true for both the NSAIDs and the
    opioid pain drugs...

I find I graze more often. Instead of breakfast/lunch its bite of
this, a bite of that. Then supper around 4.30 and that's that till
    the next morning.

I graze mostly, too... Sometimes we have our big meal in the middle of
the day, and graze a little more later in the evening... But when it's
at night, it can be anywhere from 4:30-5ish to 7 or 8.... depending on
how the day unfolds and how long the supper prep takes (and when I
    actually start, finally).... :)

I eat very little candy. I like those fun size candy bars since
any craving is taken care. If I buy a full sized bar often that will
last a couple of days. (One time while working I brought a full size candy bar one summer day. I had a couple of small bites I tore off, wrapped it back up and put in the cubby hole of the golf cart. One
nice spring day I was giving the cart a much needed cleaning and found that forgotten left over Snickers bar. I put it back when the cart was cleaned. Then a few weeks later had another bite. That candy bar
lasted a year or more. It had melted, frozen, thawed, froze, melted
again several times that year.) :)

That has got to be a record performance... :)

When my sweet tooth acts up I'll often have a teaspoon of plain
    sugar instead.

    I'd not do that.... :)

I'm not a big candy eater, but I love sweet rolls, cakes, pies, etc.

I like those, but can keep them in moderation... A taste every so often
will suffice... :) I don't gorge on candy, either, though I do have
that more regularly... I also will substitute chocolate covered fruits
    and nuts for candy... :)

Is that 40 packs of lunch meat packs meant to be 4...? I keep looking
at that to try to figure it out... ;) Or are they small packages...?

It's 40. At 65 cents each. The slices are very thin...but 90 calories
each. The sodium content is a bit high (over 500 milligrams per
package), but if you don't have issues with salt, then it makes a good
sandwich snack. Just put it between 2 pieces of bread, add mustard,
bacon bits, etc., and it's lunch time.

after April 3, so I'm stuck at home for 10 days.

Is that how long it'll take for the shop to be finished with it...?

Actually, they finished it last Tuesday. The problem was with all my
bills this month, I didn't have the money to pay the $37 repair bill.
$1100 a month on disability doesn't go very far.

I mostly don't stand at the stove any more... I can sit at the kitchen NB>table, close enough to the stove to reach over and grab the pan to do a NB>stir if needed, or just get up for a short time for a quick stir and
    then sit again....

I can't sit at the computer chair for very long, due to degenerative
disk disease in my spinal column, diagnosed a year and a half ago. When
told that, I thought "Well, they won't take away my disability now". I
was getting "reviews" every 5 years. Every time they ask "Is your health better?", or "Have you returned to work?", both answers are a resounding
"NO"!! Even when sent a prospective juror questionnaire, I noted such.
The flies in the ointment, healthwise, are that I never know when
another kidney stone, IBS, or migraine attack, is going to hit...and
besides the financial issue, that's keeping me from traveling, and I
hate that. I wanted to do one more trip before "retiring from
    traveling".

Lye can be pretty corrosive... I think that the lye soap at least made
    it safer to use... ;)

Cresosote, which is what is put on railroad wooden crossties, is also extremely corrosive. It helps keep the crossties from rotting too quick,
but I *LOVE* the smell of it. Many railroads have switched to concrete crossties...and while more expensive, they last far longer than the
    wooden ones.

All the more reason not to insult them... period... <G>

I remember the late Steve Irwin, having the crocodiles at the zoo in Austrailia, and two of them, Agro and Bindy, had "attitudes". They're
coming at him, hissing, etc., and he's saying "Come here, sweetheart"!!
    <G>.

He and his Dad were hunting for them one time, and they had built what
they thought was a fortified cage to hold the reptile...but the
crocodile would have none of it, and he broke loose from it. Everyone
was stunned. His one daughter, named Bindy, is a very attractive young
lady, and I'm sure her Mom, Terry (Steve's widow) will be very
protective of her. Bindy has a brother, but I forget what his name is
    offhand.

Tragically, Steve was killed by a sting from a stingray a few years
ago. At the memorial service at the zoo, they showed a blooper tape, and everyone was howling in laughter. He was trying to thank these
"professionals" for helping him, but he could NOT say "professionals" to
save his life!! Everyone was laughing, and after numerous re-takes,
Steve finally went up to the camera, and said "Would you all just go
    away??!!" <G>.

... Program call to load Windows: "Here_piggy_piggy_piggy!"

Really. I'm in a quandry to upgrade to Windows 10 later this year, if finances work out. Basically, I'm being forced to by the greed of
Microsoft, because they're stopping security updates from Windows 7 in
early 2020. But, at $200 a pop, that's rather steep. Plus, it has to be
32-bit, or I won't do it. Besides the BBS, I only have ham radio and
square dancing as my 2 other hobbies...and I don't want any of them
going by the boards. One ham radio operator refers to Windows 10 as
    "Satan's Little Sextoy". :P I'm happy with Windows 7, but I'm afraid I'm
going to have to bite the bullet. Yet, if finances don't work out, I'm
    staying with Windows 7.

Usually Coca-Cola or Ginger Ale will do it for me. But, since I have

I think he's the same way with rice. I myself love those cherries, and
the only rice I can't handle is the "Spanish Rice".

What I dislike are fruits in stores that aren't ripe, but I set them

The cherry and grape tomatoes rot so fast that it's pathetic. When I

Is that 40 packs of lunch meat packs meant to be 4...? I keep looking
at that to try to figure it out... ;) Or are they small packages...?
    It's 40. At 65 cents each. The slices are very thin...but 90
calories each. The sodium content is a bit high (over 500 milligrams
per package), but if you don't have issues with salt, then it makes a
good sandwich snack. Just put it between 2 pieces of bread, add
mustard, bacon bits, etc., and it's lunch time.

    OK...

after April 3, so I'm stuck at home for 10 days.
Is that how long it'll take for the shop to be finished with it...?
Actually, they finished it last Tuesday. The problem was with all my
bills this month, I didn't have the money to pay the $37 repair bill. $1100 a month on disability doesn't go very far.

True. Our mechanics would have let us take the car home in a similar situation.... as they say, they know where we live, so they trust us to
come up with the money in good time... meanwhile, they don't have to
    store the vehicle.... :)

I mostly don't stand at the stove any more... I can sit at the kitchen
table, close enough to the stove to reach over and grab the pan to do a
stir if needed, or just get up for a short time for a quick stir and
    then sit again....
I can't sit at the computer chair for very long, due to degenerative
disk disease in my spinal column, diagnosed a year and a half ago.
When told that, I thought "Well, they won't take away my disability
now". I was getting "reviews" every 5 years. Every time they ask "Is
your health better?", or "Have you returned to work?", both answers are
    a resounding "NO"!!

I understand that after a certain age, the reviews stretch to 8 years...
and once you turn 65 or so (maybe just 62), the disability turns into
regular retirement, and there aren't any more reviews...

Even when sent a prospective juror questionnaire, I noted such.

There are some things that do work against being able to serve as a
    juror... :)

The flies in the ointment, healthwise, are that I never
know when another kidney stone, IBS, or migraine attack, is going to hit...and besides the financial issue, that's keeping me from
traveling, and I hate that. I wanted to do one more trip before
    "retiring from traveling".

Hopefully you will be able to get that last chance... :)

Lye can be pretty corrosive... I think that the lye soap at least made
    it safer to use... ;)
Cresosote, which is what is put on railroad wooden crossties, is
also extremely corrosive. It helps keep the crossties from rotting too quick, but I *LOVE* the smell of it. Many railroads have switched to concrete crossties...and while more expensive, they last far longer
    than the wooden ones.

And are probably less of a danger to the environment...

All the more reason not to insult them... period... <G>
I remember the late Steve Irwin, having the crocodiles at the zoo in Australia, and two of them, Agro and Bindy, had "attitudes". They're coming at him, hissing, etc., and he's saying "Come here,
    sweetheart"!! <G>.
He and his Dad were hunting for them one time, and they had built
what they thought was a fortified cage to hold the reptile...but the crocodile would have none of it, and he broke loose from it. Everyone
was stunned. His one daughter, named Bindy, is a very attractive young lady, and I'm sure her Mom, Terry (Steve's widow) will be very
protective of her. Bindy has a brother, but I forget what his name is offhand.
Tragically, Steve was killed by a sting from a stingray a few years
    ago.

Yes, I remember all that... :)

At the memorial service at the zoo, they showed a blooper tape,
and everyone was howling in laughter. He was trying to thank these "professionals" for helping him, but he could NOT say "professionals"
to save his life!! Everyone was laughing, and after numerous re-takes, Steve finally went up to the camera, and said "Would you all just go away??!!" <G>.

    :)

... Program call to load Windows: "Here_piggy_piggy_piggy!"
Really. I'm in a quandry to upgrade to Windows 10 later this year,
if finances work out. Basically, I'm being forced to by the greed of Microsoft, because they're stopping security updates from Windows 7 in early 2020. But, at $200 a pop, that's rather steep. Plus, it has to
be 32-bit, or I won't do it. Besides the BBS, I only have ham radio and square dancing as my 2 other hobbies...and I don't want any of them
going by the boards. One ham radio operator refers to Windows 10 as "Satan's Little Sextoy". :P I'm happy with Windows 7, but I'm afraid
I'm going to have to bite the bullet. Yet, if finances don't work out,
    I'm staying with Windows 7.

As you know, I'm not a fan of Windows... and am still happily using
DOS... Richard uses mostly DOS, and has installed Linux on some of his machines which he uses second most.... Some of his machines do have
Windows, partly because there are times when he has to check something
out on multiple platforms... and partly because for some things one has
to use something from Windows to do certain things on the web... I've
learned that Windows10 can be useful for a few things... at least the
machine he has with the Win10 is a touchscreen, which makes things a
    little less upsetting for me...

Since I worked at a family business, I didn't get that. I basically

one wanted to do the work. I'm sure they about had a heart attack, when
I walked in, and said I had to resign, due to declining health. It has
gotten worse over the last 15 years...including a diagnosis of
degenerative disk disease in my spinal column a year and a half ago.

The original owner, when I told him, said "I guess I'll have to fire
you". He later apologized, as he was "joking", but I thought he was
serious. But, had they fired me, and I had written proof of it, I think
I would've just taken that to the court, then law enforcement would've
showed up with arrest warrants and handcuffs, for "contempt of court".

Even though I lost big time, pay wise, when I served, it meant a few
hours where I didn't have to deal with the boss.

    Nancy,

Taping the knob is probably a wise idea... And you'll replace with NB>something less likely to lock on its own...?

I may just replace the lock...but have to get funding to do it.

So are your hands finally clean again....? <G>

From both the newsprint, and after silkscreen printing, yes.

That must have been the one after the one in the tagline.... ;)

    Really.
