always had goodies to give away and in thanks for helping them I
would get pens, bite size candies, etc. For a couple of years
various companies were giving away thumb drives and I got a pile
of them I still use on a regular basis.
Were they emblazoned with the company name....? ;)

    Most were.
    I mean its advertising. :)

That's what I was figuring... :) Doesn't hurt their functionality
    any... :)

One I really liked was black and gold (from the Army) that matched
    my uniform. :)

That was a pen, not a thumbdrive...? As long as it worked... :)

The vendors wanted to get rid of their goodies so they didn't have
to take it back to their business.
    Makes perfect sense... :)

Its also a way for the company to judge the amount of traffic that
one booth had. The less the people took back the higher the foot
traffic the bean counters figured. :)

And what they don't know there won't hurt them.... ;)

One year I got like six pounds of Starbucks coffee. Their coffee
on campus was as bitter as all get out, but when I made it at home
    it was fine.
I suppose that when it was made on campus, it wasn't being made quite
as it should have been done.... or, perhaps, as one might do, to make
    things less bitter....

Starbucks coffee has always tasted bitter to me and one reason for
them to sell flavourings to make the bad taste go away. :)

My brother likes their coffees.... I don't think I would, even if I
COULD have coffee any more.... flavourings in coffee aren't my favorite
    thing, either...

It also depends on the temp of the water. Using water that's too
hot releases acids in the beans that make it bitter.

That's part of what I was thinking about... :)

We had a McDonald's whose coffee was always nasty and gave me
heartburn but another a few miles away was fine.

The other knew how to make their coffee... :)

minimum of $10 to get out. They are charged the regular rate
(only 50 cents an hour) for the time they were in there.
If they hear that that charge for lost ticket is a minimum of $10,
does the ticket miraculously appear....? ;)

Maybe at some later date, but not at the attendants booth.
People would put them in their pocket, drop it somewhere in the car,
or just lose it along the way.
Then there were the ones trying to pull a fast one.

I was thinking mostly of the last sort.... ;)
