However it still is having troubles with the i915drmfb frame buffer device wrt Intel UHD Graphics 630 and mplayer using fbdev2 as the output device. It works perfect with pre 5.8.x kernel versions. I haven't tried it with anything else since this is the only machine I ever do multimedia stuff on at the moment. My best guess is that the kernel's framebuffer drivers still need work.

That could work for a single machine, annoys when you have 10, and appears almost impossible when you have over a hundred.

    Possibly you've misconfigured it...

    % dmesg | grep i915

    Everything works just fine here.

    Hallo Alexey!

That could work for a single machine,

It works but not with mplayer ... yet.

    annoys when you have 10,

Three at the moment but will have four going once I figure if it is just the one (skylake) that has the framebuffer issue.

and appears almost impossible when you have over a hundred.

Not enough plugins for that many.

    Possibly you've misconfigured it...

I don't think so. I'll see later when I bring the fourth one back online. It has a AST2400 graphics chipset which has worked flawlessly since forever.

Today I see 5.8.9 and it still isn't up to speed as far as the machine I am currently playing with is concerned. It's default kernel is still kv-5.4.x and is likely to sit there for awhile longer.

However it still is having troubles with the i915drmfb frame buffer

go back to VGA fb0 then

    No.

Also as I suspected the astdrmfb works excellent on kv-5.8.8 and still give me 8 penguins on bootup so if anything I'd bo back to using that as my primary machine. However I am content to wait until the i915 kernel gurus catch up. They usually do ... eventually. In the meantime I'll keep doing what I've always been doing. How about you?
