    Hello Michiel,

    I have setup the HE.NET tunnel that I acquired. It is installed for use by 1:14/6, bbs.twisted-balloon.org, 2001:470:1f10:acd::2, 65.103.12.164. I can connect and send mail via IPv6. And port 24554 looks be open via Ipv6. Let me know what you see from your end.

    Hello There,

    IPv6 seems OK, but your binkp port is closed:

    That's odd as 1:14/6 can send and receive Fido traffic from other systems using IPv6. For testing I have forced Ipv6 BinkP connections to 1:14/6 from other Fido systems here and they connect fine.

    In doing remote port checks using my tunnel v6 IP I do get conflicting reports as some say that 24554 is open:

    Checked port 24554 on Host/IP bbs.twisted-balloon.org...
    The checked port (24554, service binkp) is online/reachable!

    while others say it's closed.

    Currently the Linux firewall is inactive for tunnel testing purposes.

    Upon further testing I found that if I disabled Synchronet's BinkIt daemon and loaded Binkd 1.1a-96 (Dec 24 2017 00:45:58/Linux) with compilation flags: gcc, debug, zlib, perl, https, ntlm, bwlim. Facilities: fts5004 ipv6

    Then the remote IPv6 remote port checks that showed a closed 24554 port previously, now show the port as being open using IPv6. Before BinkIt, BinkD could be setup to work with Synchronet.

    Jeff

    Not from my perspective. :-)

    The system that I installed the tunnel on here is running Synchronet. I was initially using the BinkIt mailer for SBBS. But after the connection issues and as a test I disabled BinkIt and installed BinkD 1.1a-96. It looks to have started up upon installation while I was editing BinkD's config file. For testing I have disabled it's automatic loading. I will be tweaking the BinkD config to work more easily with SBBS. SBBS is tossing the incoming mail received by BinkD.

    The remote port checks that were reporting 24554 closed using IPv6 now show that port open for 1:14/6. I have queried the Synchronet author on BinkIt. Up to this point Synchronet had been idle so it seemed a likely test subject.

    Cool. Part of the problem might have been the use of Synchronet's BinkIt mailer. As the connection issue looks to have ceased when I changed from BinkIt to BinkD as the mailer for Synchronet.

    Cool. Part of the problem might have been the use of Synchronet's
    BinkIt mailer. As the connection issue looks to have ceased when I
    changed from BinkIt to BinkD as the mailer for Synchronet.

    Is Synchronet itself listening on IPv6?

    Synchronet itself I don't think listens for activity on ports. Now the BinkIT mailer that now comes with the current versions of Synchronet does. In the past one had to setup and use BinkD as a FTN mailer. I recall telling BinkIT to listen on both an v4 and a v6 IP and I got an error. But with a IPv6 tunnel I wouldn't think that would be necessary. In any event BinkD seems to function fine with the IPv6 tunnel.

    Synchronet itself I don't think listens for activity on ports. Now the

    Telnet? SSH? Besides, as DM pointed out, the JS modules jisten on their ports
    on the addresses specified in sbbs.ini.

    ; IP address of network interface to bind to (defaults to ANY/ALL interfaces):

    Interface=10.69.181.6,2001:44b8:4176:f100::6,202.12.89.162,10.21.1.109,fd00:0:f 1d0:0:15:2:6d:0,fd00:0:f1d0:0:539:2:67:0,fd00:0:f1d0:0:1b0:1:65:0,10.43.21.101

    Mine's particularly complex, because 2 BBSs are sharing the same machine (using
    separate IPs), and the system is on multiple networks. Therefore, I have to expliticitly specify where SBBS listens, to avoid conflicts with other software, but the vast majority of people shouldn't need to do this.

    DM did suggest using

    Interface=::

    to explicitly specify all IPv6 interfaces, which should also do IPv4 on Linux, even though the default is to listen on all interfaces.

    BinkIT mailer that now comes with the current versions of Synchronet
    does. In the past one had to setup and use BinkD as a FTN mailer. I
    recall telling BinkIT to listen on both an v4 and a v6 IP and I got an error. But with a IPv6 tunnel I wouldn't think that would be necessary.
    In any event BinkD seems to function fine with the IPv6 tunnel.

    What OS are you running on? If it's Linux, try telling it to listen only on IPv6 (::).

    I still use BinkD, because I like that software, and had been using it for years, but heard a lot of good things about BinkIT.
