    Yes.. I noticed that at the end of the article. :( But the
    payload still requires some form of delivery in an archive that
    the OS then unpacks. I don't have the habit of opening up
    unsolicited .zip archives arriving in email.

    But a cleaverly crafted .exe install program could deliver or
    create one.

    Neither do I... and there are daily backups taken of everything here if anything got hosed. The proper hot-image backup sets; I haven't had to re-install Windows for a lonnnnnng time now.

    I missed part of the conversation. What issue is it please?

    Opening a location using the UNC and dollar-sign notation and a reference to an NTFS metadata attribute causes Windows to mark the file system as "dirty". The next time the OS reboots, Chkdsk engages and may or may not cause data corruption.
