    Nope.

I have noticed that when I try to type two dashes in a row,
that is, --, TgM would concatonate them into one long dash
symbol. Maybe that is what's happening. HOWEVER, I learned
that I could get two separate dashes if I do one backspace and
    type the 2nd dash.

Not. You put one long hyphen instead two short. It's known disservice of Telegramm applications. You should hit backspace onece end you got the two short hyphen or type "- -" and then delte space. :(

I'm already pondering how to get around this without losing the appearance of messages. For example, at first I used "%%%" for this and it looked horrible.

    Have nice nights.

Nope. I noticed on Telegram Desktop that when I type in two hyphens it will replace those with an emdash. So I had to press ctrl-z to have it put them back.

If TgM changes the "--" to an em dash, why not try something
else like // or \\ or .. or == or that won't change to
anything else, *and* that doesn't require a shift-key.

The %%% not only looks too busy, it requires a shift-key, at
least on a US-keyboard it does.

*If* you are undecided, I vote for // or \\ or .. since they
    wouldn't require a BkSp or Ctl-Z <g>

They are nice and close around the Enter key.

The -- is w-a-y up far away and high on the top row on my
laptop. But even accessing any symbols would be different from

Doesn't seem to be an issue for mobile users. Looks like Telegram is best suited to mobile use, which complements existing FTN well. :)

I use the portable Windows DT version on a USB stick and access TgM from a couple of different laptops at two different locations. So, even without a phone handy, the portable version can be used from any available PC - as long as
    it has Win7 minimum.

Would be interesting to hear from anyone inclined to use the linux/mac/macOS/iPad DT versions.

It does seem that way. On the Telegram side. I have noticed for example, that first thing in the day it is a bit more complicated going through unread messages for me, but that could possibly just be me not being used to Telegram itself.
