• BBS REVIEW SORT OF (FUTURE) THING?

NEWS: SYSOPS BEWARE of "CHEESE BURGER" : ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The following may not specifically address matters of future FTN
technology or developement, but it is kind of like a new development sort
of thing that has emerged in recent weeks.

CHEESE BURGER is your comedic host as he visits random BBSes out there.

SOME KIND OF B.B.S. REVIEW TYPE THING

Some cussing abounds but it seems to be justified. ;)

Heads-Up :: The audio quality of the earlier vids is a bit over saturated (he speaks
too close to the mic), but there is modest improvement in the more recent
    ones.

    Current BBSes reviewed to date:

[12] TAKING A DIP IN DANGER BAY - B.B.S., THAT IS! HA HA HA!
[11] HYSTERIA'S HYSTERICAL LACK OF FUNCTIONALITY! LOL!
[10] NOT A PHANTASTIC EXPERIENCE ON PHANTASM! HA HA HA!
[9] A TRIP TO CYBERIA HA HA HA!
[8] NOT EXACTLY "THE ULTIMATE COMPUTER" - HAHA!
[7] A TOUR OF CHEESE DADDY'S FUNKY HUT!
[6] GETTING INTO SOME RETRO SHENANIGANS - B.B.S., THAT IS! HA HA HA!
[5] STEPPING INTO THE FUNKNOWN - B.B.S., THAT IS! HA HA HA!
[4] I DIALED THE WRONG NUMBER - B.B.S., THAT IS!
[3] A REVIEW OF A 80S APPLE II B.B.S. WHICH IS AN APPLE
[2] CHECKING INTO THE NUT ASYLUM ... B.B.S., THAT IS!
[1] REVIEW OF THE SCANTRONIC R&D BETA

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Additional commentary from the FUTURE4FIDO Roving Reporter: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

By seeing examples of retro BBS installations and implementations of
current popular BBS software, we are either saddened at the current state
of affairs in BBS-land or we are inspired to make a contribution for a
better future of the hobby, or we are simply being entertained.

But sysops be warned. Something Cheese Burger sort of thing may come your way. And, you may never pronounce BBS, Sysop, PCBoard, WWIV, CPU and many other terms of the hobby the same conventional sort of way ever again.

BBS_CARNIVAL, For instance, seems a more appropriate area for this...

I totally agree regarding appropriateness. I considered a xpost there
too. But I wasn't hooked up to it for a convenient simultaneous copy from
my OpenXP system. I am still disovering the many features of OpenXP so
there might be a source or a future-related article about that.

This (future4fido) echo seemed like a logical place to announce a "new"
thing like Cheese Burger's reviews on the BBS culture. I think of my post
as an occassional contribution similar to a special entertainment section
in a magazine where related yet interesting information can be found.

Since you have an opinion would you like to be co-mod of this place? <G>
Two heads (er, roving reporters) can be better than one.

What stirred me to post about the BBS REVIEW SORT OF THING was that as I watched the fellow explore the offerings, I wondered is that all there is
out there? Is the "future" just a bunch of retro systems? Is that as
    good as it gets?

when he discovers it, maybe Cheese Burger will comment on the nature of inter-connected BBSes and how they function and the technology they rely
on - FTN, QWK binkp - or some other.

I don't think so. I posted the original rules here about a year ago, and when I reread them, I don't see this area as a kind of announcement area...

    Thanks but no thanks. ;)

I don't think these half abandoned areas, with little traffic need any moderator at all, let alone a co-moderator...

That kind of discussion could have a place here, though. ;)

I'm inclined to disagree. I thought this echo was more about furthering technical advances for Fidonet, and working out ways to evolve into the future.
