    Hi all,

My system was totally out of commission tonight for about 4 hours... I just got things running a few minutes ago finally... This hard drive has had it, it's really ancient.

I intended to move everything on this one to a new box "RSN"... I guess the bbsgods have spoken though... <bg>.. so tomorrow I'm taking the system down and replacing it with a new box that's been waiting on me to get moving.

I'll post here before I take it down tomorrow. I should be able to come back up shortly after a new linux install sometime tomorrow.

    Take care,
    Janis

Ouch, hopefully all will hang together until you get everything on a new box.

Reminds me, I have to do a scheduled SD card replacement this month. Keep forgetting, can't afford to do that. :/

Have you considered the use of a SSD drive as upgrade option? In the last year I have upgraded two Linux PC's here to 1 TB SSD boot drives. Those PC's still also have several 2-4 TB SATA drives for storage. With the SSD boot drives I have noticed boot times in the 5-10 second range. At this point in time I think it unlikely that I would go with a SSD only mass storage PC that would have 2-8 TB of storage. Even though there are 2-4 TB SSD's available. IMHO, the cost is still higher than what I can/wish to pay for a "Hobby" PC. I have fought the urge to "Just build a new PC" in the last year. :) I am currently at 9 PC's and don't really see the need for more. At one point when I wanted to try a new/different Linux distro. I would build a new PC for it. :)

I still (and always have) run BBBS on one system here with one drive (about 2T with about 1.6T free)... and that's mainly all I use. I have a much ignored tablet here somewhere as well, I guess I should count that one <g>.

    Take care,
