It would be interesting to know where the eight bit option is held
    back,
because obviously it still is, despite the developer's attempt to remove
    th
    archaic restriction.

Zone wise, region wise, net wise, hub wise, whatever.

It is not used here at my system, as I have had no requests by RC's or other ZC's for me to enable it.

So it's OPT-IN and not OPT-OUT, then? Fair enough. Would it harm anything if it was the other way around?

I think it would, but not for really any "tech" reason.

I wrote on another network that there are two types of BBS guys... Guys who enjoy and/or have the time to screw around with OS's, BBS/Fido software, scripts, modules, etc. And guys who get things working and "Leave it alone".

I fall into the latter catagory as I work two/three jobs and you are aware of my family situation.

After election, I spent three solid nights redesigning the ZC1 operation
from scratch last year. I perfected it, it works, runs like clockwork, and is even "portable" so I can turn things over to any successor very easily and nobody can ever dare say that I ran a shit system. All of this work was done so I can happily enjoy exchanging mail with you instead of fixing "problems".

But if there is a compelling need for the ZC1 system to have 8-bits enabled, I will gladly entertain discussion amongst RC's and ZC's to do so.

The end result just better not cause problems for *me* or waste *my* time.

If you are discussing/debating anything with Bjorn Felten, you can
count on it being a waste of your time.
