• Running a BBS on OS/2 VM

From Marceline Jones@1:103/705 to MARK LEWIS on Sun Mar 14 16:44:00 2021
easier said than done... OS/2 is not so easily installed in a VM...

I am thinking about running a BBS on OS/2 on VirtualBox.

What is the problem with running OS/2 on a VM ?

that's fine if virtualbox is ok for you... it isn't for everyone...

What is the problem with running OS/2 on a VM ?

nothing IF you can install it... it simply cannot be installed in all VM providers...

we also know for a fact that some VMs made some changes which explicitly prevented OS/2 from being installed... this back when m$ was a lot more active in causing problems and preventing competition with their products... even
some DOS command shell replacements ran into similar tactics back in the day... DRDos being one that comes to mind first...

It's a pain in the ass to get it to install.

with Oracle Virtualbox its fairly easy. but you are right, i don't know
any other virtualization which allows OS/2..

You might have a issue if you try and use more then a 2 GB partition.

No, thats not the issues. I set my partitions to 520 MEG, 16 MEG of ram, etc ... the vm's just don't play well with OS/2's installer. If you get it to install 1 out of 100 tries, it works great. But it usually fails.

this is highly dependent on several factors... it is not set in stone...
